View Full Version : Viability of an Arizona Chapter

It appears that some of y'all were correct. At this point in time there does not appear to be enough interest in starting an Arizona Chapter of NAXJA to continue to move forward.

Although I'm still talking to folks, we're going to have to table this until we have more interest. It takes a minimum of 15 signed up "in the red" NAXJA members to form a chapter. I got positive response from approximately 1/2 that number.

I sent out a lot of p.m.'s and most went unanswered. Hopefully in the future we will be able to generate enough interest.

Oh and to O2BGPN (O@BGPN), welcome to the official NAXJA family. :D

Have you thought about a chapter that includes AZ, NM, and TX?

You may get more interest.

I think one of the reasons they are looking to start an Az chapter is to get away from such a large space.

Right now they are in the IC but can never get to a meeting, M&G or most trail runs.

Az guys...Maybe you should orginize a couple of M&Gs down that way. Maybe one in Tucon and one in Phoenix.

Put some fliers out in the local 4X4 shops and Jeep dealers.

We have found up here thats a great way to gain some interest.

I would love to find some more people with XJ's to go wheeling with. I am in Prescott and we have some good places around here.
This thing needs to be used:

Having M&G's around the chapter is a good idea. It keeps poeple from being left out of group activities. We have sepeate M&G's in WA. and OR. so nobody has to travel to far. Lack of participation turns into lack a interest.

I see ALOT of lifted cherokees around here. I guess most of them dont know about NAXJA yet. My friend who has a grand cherokee already found a group of WJ/ZJ from another jeep forum, so ive been wheeling with them. Still wanting to make a chapter for us azdesertrhino, so make sure to let us know if we get there. :D

Looking through some old threads and it appears that others have tried to generate enough interest several times before over the past few years and it never got off the ground.

I really don't understand the lack of interest and will keep this on the burner. Hopefully there will be enough interest in the future.

A meet & greet in different parts of the state sounds like a good idea. I'm in Tucson, can make time on pretty much any weekend with a little notice. Any ideas?

My rig needs to get out too!!

You guys and gals can count me in for a m&g or a trail ride, especially in the Tucson or Florence area. I’ve been wheeling around here for 36 years. I can’t say when I might be wheeling my xj but I have a fully locked J20 ready to go. I usually wheel about once a month and annually wheel Ouray as part of the full size jeep invasion of Co. http://www.dakotacom.net/~jeepster/tipshades.gif

The J20 is all I have right now that’s trail worthy until I start building my xj.

Agreed, but I haven’t been on a 2.5 rated trail in ages. I do wheel my stock xj at the Gila river and some other places I go. I take it fly-fishing in the wht mtns of Az and use two pairs of snow chains when I go up for ice-out in the spring and ice-over in the winter. But dang, I got use to lockers and such so that’s where the xj is headed I’m afraid.http://www.dakotacom.net/~jeepster/tipshades.gif

I have lots of pics of the J20, mostly poser shots in the tame stuff.

Awesome truck! That isn't the original grill for a '86 though, right?

You have a chapter now, it's called the Intermountain Chapter, feel free to organize local AZ runs under the chapter guidelines. Focus on gaining the interest of local XJers in NAXJA first, the chapter thing will come after sevearal trail runs/Trail cleanups/work partys and some Meet/greets. Don't rush it.

4 or so founding NAXJA members are from the same area in Utah and helped get things off the ground on a National level and stay engaged as NAXJA grew, til there was enough local interest to form the IC.......now the IC has nearly tripled in size in two years.

Better to have enough AZ folks interested to stick together and build a local chapter longterm......this glue comes from dedication and mutual interests of fellow XJers, not a decal on the fender.

True, very true... I guess we were just kind of feeling left out because all the action seems to be happening in Utah. We should stop worrying about making a chapter and just start organizing events down here.

Seems so obvious now!:dunce:

Thanks. I'm sure the family just got a little more dysfunctional with my addition.
