brake pedal assembly

My buddy has a 91 xj, that there was abs, but the previous owner messed up and not he has non asb master cylinder and all tht. the shop he went to says he needs a new non asb pedal assembly, and i have a 88 that i was parting out, and didnt know if an 88 would work in a 91. the guy at the shop says they all are almost the same and should work, but i wanted to see what everyone here had to say. thanks
