Overhead Console help needed

I know there are hundreds of overhead threads. Ive dug through just about all of them I have checked fuses wires and harnesses cannot get this thing to turn on. Even had a guy told me he had problems with his, while messing with it one day it caught on fire so now kinda worried bout bout jus rambling through it. Anyone have any suggestions?

i don't know what year you have but i have the overhead. are you talking about the lights or the compass temperature guage? if its the gauge. the board burns after a regulator. i think its flaw i have 2 the same way. and then either stops working or occasionally works.

Its a factory 1991 xj

The wiring on a 91 is pretty basic. Here's what I have from a 91 service manual. There seems to be some confusion in the manual.

It shows the harness side as being this.

Pin 1 not used
Pin 2 20ga Blk/Lt Grn or Lt Blu compass ground
Pin 3 not used
Pin 4 20ga Blk reading lights ground
Pin 5 20ga Pk reading light battery feed
Pin 6 20ga Pk dome lamp feed
Pin 7 20ga Org/Blk illumination feed from dash dimmer
Pin 8 20ga Dk Blue/Red parklamps on feed to dim VFD
Pin 9 not used
Pin 10 20ga Vlt/Lt Grn ambient temp sensor
Pin 11 20ga Blk/Lt Blue ambient temp sensor
Pin 12 20ga Blk dome lamp switch ground (door ajar)
Pin 13 20ga Wht/Pk ignition switched feed

Then it shows the console side as this.
