View Full Version : Who all is in Norther Colorado?

old_man
January 20th, 2010, 11:39
The CS guys pretty much all know each other and communicate back and forth and help each other. I was thinking we should do a Northern Colorado intro thread so we can find where every body is, what their rig is like, and their wheeling preferences. Maybe we can start getting together to explore some new trails up north.

So if you are from Northern Colorado and would'nt mind, please introduce yourself. I may see about putting together one of those google maps where it shows everybody's locations.

I'm Bryson and live in NW loveland. I've met only a couple of you thus far, and unfortunetly havn't wheel'd with any of you. Hopefully that will change this up coming season.

I manage a steel fabrictation shop, and also run my own small business www.Boostwerks.com (http://www.Boostwerks.com). Hit me up if you need anything welded or fabbed. Boostwerks will soon be selling XJ specific turbo kits, and big brake kits. :)

My moderatly built rig:

how about we combine it with a snow run? we can eat at glenn echo or somewhere on the way up the canyon, and then do 7 mile, or vice versa.

29th ave and 37th street there is a Kum n Go on the corner. Any of you guys wouldnt know anything about the rugged ridge steering kit. I put this kit on and know I have alot of play in my steering and i drive like im drunk haha. I have my fiance turn the wheel while i look under and when she turns the wheel it looks like the new crossmember turns in the joints. I have done some reserach and people say to put some spacers. Also can you guys recomend some good winter tires that are good in snow and ice that still look beefy :). I have the mickey thompson baja claws at the moment and I slide all over the place with those things. I think i will use those for summer use.

Steering: Yeah, all of those steering kits that join the drag link to the tie rod like that have issues with joint "rotation". When you turn one direction the drag link pushes down on the tie rod, when you turn the other way, it pulls up on it. The tie rod ends pivot or rotate a bit with this push/pull and it creates slop or what others call a "dead spot" where it feels like things are loose.

The best cure is to remove all the grease boots and install these polyurethane spacers from JCR around the shanks of the tie rod ends:

Tires: What pressure are you running your tires at in the winter? If you're running them at 32-35 psi, that's too much. Drop 'em down around 25-28 psi - give them a larger "footprint" on the ground and your traction will improve. Off road tires are stiffer particularly on the sidewalls so they handle lower air pressures just fine. If you have good deep tread on them, you may also be able to have them siped at most larger tire shops.

Otherwise, I've had good experiences with the BFG A/T's and the Pro Comp A/T's for winter tires...... but again, with similar air pressures as mentioned above.

I'm still getting familiar with this too so let me know if it looks ok and if you can set your markers.

On a side note once you have set your marker you only have one hour to edit it if you make a mistake. Lets try to make this a good tool for everyone!
