fuel injector 90-91 compatibility

Official answer:

Fuel Injection

Model Year Part # Color Fuel Pressure Static Flow
'87-'90 53003956 Dark Tan 30/39psi 18.6lb/hr
'91-'93 33007127 Brown 30/39psi 21.0lb/hr
'94-'95 53030343 Tan 30/39psi 21.0lb/hr
'96-'99 53030778 Grey 49psi 23.2lb/hr
'99-'01 04854181 Blue tip 49psi 22.5lb/hr

If you have any of the two-piece body crimped injectors, throw them away.

A**uming you have access to a free set of injectors? Wanting to use 91 injectors on a 90 or the other way around? My 90 had the two-piece leakers OEM, not sure how long that construction method lasted.

They should be interchangeable though. Think about it. You can put the Ford #19 yellow top injectors in either year, actually any year that uses the bosch style injectors. The question is flow rate, because if you are not swapping out all of them, you want to make sure that the one or ones you are swapping out have the same flow rate as the others.

When they to the HO in 91 I beleive the fuel pressure spec went to 45psi.

Nope, stayed with the same pressures through 95, change was OBDII in 96.

thanks for the info guys. my reason for asking is I have a 91 body that came with the fuel rail and injectors. I'm going to be putting my '98 model motor in it, that was previously in my 90 model jeep. I'm not totally sure what injectors my 90 had in it, as the swap was already done when i bought the jeep. The injectors on the new 91 body are kinda nasty looking, but to my knowledge work. I was going to just use the rail and injectors already on my engine, but wasnt sure if i'd run into any compatibility issues.

Should work fine, but PLEASE inspect the injectors, and throw them away if they are the early two-piece bodies, they are just waiting to burn your XJ to the ground.

X2 SouthbayInjectors on ebay. You can get a set of 8 Ford #19 yellow top injectors from a 5.0 reconditioned for about $120. Just put a set in my 1990 4.0. They are nice and no worries about having the 2 piece injectors waiting to start leaking now.

lucky7autoinjectors is a good source on eBay too.

You can save some money at your local salvage yard, a set of orange or yellow top Ford injectors usually runs about $30 around here. You will find them in 3.8 L up through V8s in F350 vans, a pretty common 19 lb. injector.

I got a set from Precision last week. They were flow matched and a set of 6 were delivered to my door with new O-rings for $89.95 including shipping and no core charge/return. Made a pleasant increase in idle quality and performance. Tech support was top notch.

did you get the 19lb ford injectors?

Can I ask you guys, it shows in the chart Joe posted above that my cherokee flows 21lb an hour. What will change when going to 19lb an hour injectors?

Is there more detailed info on the 2 pc injector leakage problem? It's the first I've heard of it but, if they are prone to failure/fire I'll pick up a set of orange tops for my '90 on the next trip to the JY.

You could use the #24 blue tops and the engine comp will adjust the injector pulse to tone it down. I doubt you would see any drop in performance if you decide to use the #19 yellow tops though. If you are not planning any major engine upgrades, I would go with the #19s.

NOT FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, but I think the 24 lbs injectors on a stock 4.0 will be too far out for the system to handle.

I am basing this on comments posted by the strokers that use the 24 lbs injectors along with an adjustable MAP.

Do some more searching.
