View Full Version : Best place to order/buy new suspension seats?

I'm really SICK of my old OE seats in my '96 and have been looking at Mastercraft, PRP, etc... type of seats and would like some opinions on the best place to buy?

I'm not sure I can afford the Mastercraft, but if the price is right I may splurge. I had some really nice Cobra Aftermarket seats in my Mustang in the past and really miss that comfort and being held in place feel of those. My current seats are akin to sitting on two flat boards w/some small padding on them. In other words they S*CK... :)

Any suggestions are appreciated. I think I've looked all over the web, but would appreciate any deals you people might know of.

Thanks.

I looked at all of them and based on conversations with other owners and what I read on the web, I went with PRP's Daily Driver. It's a little easier to get in and out of and I was able to order direct from the factory. It's been in my rig for over a year and it's been one of my better choices. Very comfortable on the road for extended periods and works really well on the trail holding me in place. I'm a big guy and this one fit me really well.

John... is the PRP "Daily Driver" the model number? Can you tell me how much and where you got them? I have been thinking seriously about the PRP's as well... plus I'm probably bigger than average, but not huge... 6' 230#s w/a 36" waist. :)

arkansasduck... is that the name of that place and what brands do you/they carry?

Thanks guys...

I'm about 6' and 280, my buddy is 6'4" and probably 180-200 and we both think the Daily Driver is a good fit. He's got them in his XJ on custom bases. I built mine on top of the stock power seat base.

Here's a link to the PRP site:

It's referred to as the Daily Driver.

John...

Did you have any problem mounting the seats up to your factory rails? I've called a couple Jeep shops here and they don't seem to know anything about mounting seats in anything other than Wranglers and don't seem to think there's anything that will mount in a Cherokee because of the wide transmission tunnel and the narrow factory seat mount rails.

I'm not sure I could custom fabricate a way to mount these up.

Your help is appreciated.

I built a frame from 1" angle and welded it to the top of the factory power seat base. Given the option to do it again, I would build it to allow the seat to be situated a little lower. I like the high seating position on the trail but on the highway it could stand to be lower.

A friend of mine built his own mounts from the floor up and tied them into his cage.

Bottomline, some fabrication will be involved installing into an XJ. The t-case gets in the way under the floor and you do need to "massage" that area with a sledgehammer to make room to go lower than I did.

I'd go look at a set of ZJ seats or WJ's. More comfortable and better padded. I had my drivers seat redone when a weld broke and whatever padding they put in there to replace the stock stuff is very comfy.

Do ZJ or WJ seats fit in the XJ? Can they use the original seat base mounts? Do they need an alteration or the bases that come with them? I need to replace my driver's seat on my 90 XJ and want to stay near to the Jeep/ XJ OEM seats.

Any info appreciated.

I'm somewhat sure the break point year for a straight swap including bases is 94 or there abouts. Do a search on it, it has been covered in great detail with pictures and compatability.

ZJ and WJ seats will bolt right onto your seat track if you have a 95 or newer XJ, yes. And might I add, they kick ars.

Using my original 96 sport seat tracks, the like new 98 zj seats I took out of a GC Larado model bolted right to them (same seat framework). They sit perhaps an inch higher at most and the grey cloth was a very close match to the xj's grey tweed covers in the back seat. Salvage yard $75 ea.
