$20 Mark doesn't show up because his steering has .00002" of play and he doesn't like it
$10 Anthony asks me to bring something and then doesn't show up

Plus plenty of people trailer their "streetable" rigs down (I'll be one of them.) so just hop in a convoy with one of them, and if something happens people are always willing to help and you can grab space on the trailer and the "streetable" jeep that was on the trailer can be driven for however long is necessary... makes for fun times, just ask Colin and Adam :D

Amen to that.
I was afraid on my 1.5-2 hour drive back home from central MA nevermind this one. I will be trolling junkyards for every piece I might need to get back and bringing an trailer. I will most likely have an absurd number of parts for me and anyone who needs them. Likely will include a spare ax-15 and NP231 or 2  Anyway, speaking of trailer... if anyone needs to bring any parts I may be able to fit them. I just gotta be sure that a D30 is OK to run at this place incase I don't get a D44 done by then.

that was an 11 hour trip

$20 says Colin can go f*ck himself, and is going to be a little whiny bastard, and prance around "oh NACfest this, NACfest that, I don't have to do anything for NACfest because I can trailer down, and my Jeep magically works because I didn't work on it..."
:D
And I'm 90% sure I'm not going because of work/time off. I have other commitments, and can't take the last 3 weeks off of my co-op.
So I believe you owe me $20 now since you said I wouldn't be going do to steering. I'll take the other $20 in a couple months when you start prancing.

Yeah, work is the killer for me too. If it were 2 weeks later I would be set but late in Q2 will be hard. Then again later Q3 should be even worse so at least it's not then (when is fall crawl? Hopefully not then...)
I am starting to consider selling my altima and buying a truck/trailer to use as a tow rig. Either that or I will let my father borrow my car for the weekend. My mother will borrow my fathers small SUV, and I will borrow my mother's suburban to tow with. And just buy or borrow a trailer before then. I am slowly becoming more and more inclined to trailer mine in.
As much as my rig will remain registered and "street legal", I think I may tow it to events like this just so I can beat on it a bit more than I would if I had to get me home. But yeah, will be street legal incase there's a drive to a restaurant/bar some evening

God damn people. Way to plan at the worst times of the year! "lets make all the big runs be right at the end of each quarter" seems to be the theme.
I should be able to get time off then if time off is even needed. Otherwise if it's more local than PA I may just be able to leave from work early or "work from home"... aka stop by each rest stop over the course of the drive and respond to emaisl :D

There's a reason I am planning on picking up a 2nd and or 3rd D30 from teh JY.. so I have multiple sets of axle shafts and ball joints/hubs/etc incase I nuke something.
Also the reason why I am thinking about trailering the rig down. If I have a trailer I will have a heavy right foot. If I don't I will be overly careful and s*** wont be nearly as fun :D
Edit: I also plan on picking up a 2nd AX-15 and a 2nd NP231 by then, both of which will be with me. Either I will be pulling a trailer packed full of parts and stuff if I drive the XJ, or I will be trailering the XJ and packing the suburban full of parts. Either way I got a ton of space so anyone who needs stuff moved let me know. I should have room.

Those things survived the trip down, a thorough beating, and the drive all the way back.

I got the rear, tried to get the front but missed out.
Apparently the front was pretty beat too and needed quite a bit of work.. I will just build mine that has "new" hubs, balljoints, tie rod ends, etc. New = low miles but a few years old... I wouldn't be surprised if the tie rod ends need replacement, steering seemed somewhat sloppy. Probably looking into that this weekend.

Got you guys all beat...
Back in '01 I drove my rig 2200 miles out to Moab...
FIRST... had my brand new Tom Woods driveshaft FAIL on the drive out and ended up trailering the Jeep the last 5 hours to Moab (I thought it was my rear locker, turned out that the ball/socket had melted/siezed inside the CV). Got a new driveshaft.... THEN broke the bellhousing on the tranny in five pieces on Dump Bump. I found another one (had a shop put it in out there, didn't want to miss out on some amazing wheeling... even if it was in the shotgun seat) got it back, continued wheeling Moab and drove 2200 miles home.
The driveshaft was easy, I called TW and he had one to me at the campground the next day. But let me tell ya about the sinking feeling I had, when I was 30 hours from home.... with a bellhousing in 5 pieces.

But let me tell ya about the sinking feeling I had, when I was 30 hours from home.... with a bellhousing in 5 pieces.
I can only imagine - I know I was a nervous wreck the first couple times I wheeled, and I was only two hours out at Paragon, and worried sick about bashing my rockers in on the rocks. Buying the rock rails and skids made for quite the ulcer preventive. Still, that obviously pales compared to your bellhousing adventure.

Dont know if this makes sense but Ill thow it out there. I accidentaly clicked on NWFest & they put together a whole trail schedule for what each group plans to run each day. As seen here http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1021263
I think it would be cool to put something together like that since its always such a cluster F every year of people trying to make plans where to go, then the groups fall apart & people get lost etc. I got screwed last year when the group broke up, no one knew what they wanted to do & hours of time were wasted spanking off.
I know raush isnt really that big and you cant spend days running one trail, but it would be cool for some people who know the park well to put some planned runs together that could make a fun semi organized day for different skill levels. It would be easy to know where groups were & help people decide what they wanna do. I would certainally contribute.

I plan on being there, with 5 months notice I can't have much of a "the rig isn't ready" excuse. My only problem may be work.
I have a few choices for sleeping I guess. I will be pulling a trailer down (or pulling the Jeep down on a trailer) so either way I can pass out in the back of whatever I drive. If that isn't an option for some reason I have a tent, or I can just sleep under the Jeep with a tarp. I think it would end up being a "pass out under the Jeep" night unless I bring a lady friend. Then I may deal with the trouble of setting up a tent. I just have to be sure no one wakes me up too fast so I dont knock myself out on something by sitting up too quick

i threw that rear axle under my jeep 12 hours before the competion with a questionable bearing/seal setup that the previous owner had the axle set up with. i couldnt get the correct parts in time, so i ran it using the old dryrotted outer seal in the retainer plate cup and an inner seal and packed it with wheel burrin grease.
the other side was even more ghetto using a "custom" retainer plate and no outer seal. i figured it would get me through the weekend and the more ghetto side did the trick.
i later found out that the outers on this axle are the same as an xj dana44 so now i just run parts for that
its a semifloat dana 60-2 out of a 1974 international incase anyone is wondering
