'Just started to watch an episode of that. They were highlighting stormchasers.(yeah, those guys) Had one character talking about his explorer and how great it was. Then spent five minutes explaining how it is important to keep your chase vehicle in tip-top mechanical condition, while the truck is being serviced and checked for a transmission problem(slipping in gear?). Then he gets in and leaves without having the trans serviced because there was a storm he needed to get to. I turned it off after that.
Why is it that no matter how cool the video they shoot is, stormchasers always come across as losers on camera?

Usually they're complete wackers - in fact "wackers" is the general nickname given to them by a lot of ham radio operators, another strange crew entirely. A lot of stormchasers just seem to get off to having a bajillion radios/scanners and wannabe emergency lights all over their cars. There are, as usual, a few sane people mixed in who are actually doing a good job, but there is a large lunatic fringe.
kinda like ham radio... and offroading... and pretty much any other expensive hobby. There'll always be nutty people involved, and they usually are the ones who get on the nightly news because of some ridiculous thing they did or because they want to get the word out and make the sane guys go  there went our public image again.
EDIT: before anyone accuses me of flaming, I'm a ham radio operator and I drive a lifted Jeep :anon:
