Im going to be doing an AW4 swap this year and i was just wondering if i should keep my 231 or find a good used 242, Im not sure what the difference is between the two so if you have some info and or opinions on which is better please let me know why.

Thanks

All the kids that play hard say the 231 is stronger and use it.

The 242 case has a full-time four wheel drive provision for soccer moms and my wife. When she wants four wheel drive she can use the full time and drive on any road surface without hurting anything. I don't break parts, so our 242 can stay put.

If you plan on playing hard, and don't get all spastic about having to shift the 4x4, keep the 231.

The swap to go from a 231 to a 242 requires more wiring fabrication if you care about the indicator light in the dash.

Stick with the 231, just as durable, easier operation. Not a whole lot of benefit swapping to a 242.

isn't a 231 cheaper to upgrade too?

Yes it is. The RE SYE for the 242 is crazy-stupid 'spensive.

For the inexperienced driver, I vote 242.

Daniel's got one in his rig and I like it for him since he can use the Fulltime 4wd when it's snow packed and icy. No worries about the case taking a beating when engaged on pavement.
