No Speedo !

Hello,

The XJ is a 92 4/0 4x4 auto and the speedo stopped working finally for good.
It used to come and go but, finally nothing. I have been in contact with some forum members trying to resolve this issue. Well I decided I would test it by putting a drill on the end of the speedo gear and turning it to see if the speedo gauge moves. Well nothing, it was tried in park while running and in drive, still nothing.
The conclusion I have come to is that the sensor package (the unit with the plug coming out of it) has crapped out.
Does this make make sense to anyone else?

Had a similar problem when i changed my speedo gear, I cracked the housing, worked for about a month after, but would ocassionally warble, where the speedometer would jump around.
Raplace the sending unit and all has been good since.

The sending unit?, Is that the same as the part the plug goes into that the speedo gear is attached to?
