I'll be there all week. Working on the GenRight team, and I'm alternate driver. The race is going to start at 8:00 am but will go later into the evening. Some of the teams will finish in the dark. The course is 38 miles longer than last year, 135 miles, and has up to five more rock trails. It's going to be especially brutal.

The place is going to be packed. Need to make plans on how to communicate where the gang will be camped for those coming out late in the week.

Oh crap. Maybe I do have to go... I'll consult the work schedule. If I did make it, I'd be showing up late Thurs night. Maybe borrow & bring the Egg trailer, maybe not. Hell, to make it more affordable, might bring the Mitsu Mirage & a tent...

For anyone that makes it out there, knowing where the group's camped would be mighty helpful, although cell service out on the lakebed has (distressing as it is to me) improved a lot since last year. You don't need to find the "phone bush" to find signal anymore. Maybe someone can monitor a particular CB Channel (Channel 4?)or something?

If no one is going earlier than Wednesday morning the 10th let me know an RV count and I will have my friend size a camp accordingly. I do not know where he will be on the lake bed yet, but he is local to the area and spends a lot of time at the hammers. I am sure he will find a good spot. I have no idea how crowded it will be on Wednesday, but I am sure it will be pretty insane. So far it is just my 35' toybox and his 40' fifthwheel in our camp. everyone is welcome to join.

It's going to be impossible to designate a camp spot ahead of time, other than trying for a general area. The place is going to packed. There are 75+ teams already in the race, and 50+ teams in the LCQ, with all of their friends and support crews. Plus race organizers, race volunteers, vendors, media personel, and spectators. Whoever gets out there early in the week needs to pick a spot where there's enough room for the camp to grow as the week progresses, and then post up here where they are at. It would help to take a couple NAXJA banners out to hang on the sides of the RV, but early in the week.

I'll be out there the previous Sat, but will likely be camping with the GenRight group. We'll also have a pretty good group from Bakersfield. Both groups are likely to be on the left side shortly after crossing the bridge. You all could figure on being more to the left, behind the first one or two rows, after crossing the bridge. If you want to be on the lakebed, the location will be a total crap shoot.

Should be plenty of room for the Bronco. Looks like my friend will have about 4-5 RVs with him plus mine and whoever else. So it sounds like it should be a camp of about 10 RVs. Plenty of room for Jeeps or Broncos in the middle of camp.

Well with all the talk of limited space we are headed up Tuesday afternoon with three rigs to find a decent spot. We're going to leave the rigs there and be back Wed. night or Thursday am. I would to get them near someone who was already set-up to keep an eye on them for us....I am sure we could pay in beer for the services :)

I'll ask again as we get closer to that weekend and try to set up near the group.

Tony I will have room in the motorhome if you don't want to sleep in the Bronco.

All kidding aside guys... it is a ZOO out there, a ton of people...... it is not "Easy as pie"to find each other. Richard is dead on..... easy it is not.

Now, my recomendation, is for a new thread to start up the week of with coordinate of where your camping..... send em out, and people can post em up. That way everyone can hook up!

Actually, that's not where Hammertown will be, that's by the cell phone bush towards the middle of the lake. The west side where Hammertown will be is dry.

That water will be gone in a couple weeks, depending on how much more rain we get. But, it could still be muddy out there, and who knows what the trails will look like.......should be fun. :)

Ya know whats even better is that on that same team is Larry McRae & Jon Bundrant . For those that have not been around much. Larry is the owner of Poison Spider and Jon was the first of the "Moon Buggy" crowd. Larry and Jon were CRCA comp. back in like 2000 and heres one pict of "Tiny" I think it was the first Moon Buggy Build for rock crawling. At least on the west coast. Currie did some trick things for it and it now is the norm.

On the front page of P4x4 they show semi current pix. and my buddy just came back last night. both show a very wet and muddy Dry lake bed. With many larger puddles and with rain forcasted for tue/wed, it will stay about how it is now till race day I would think.

A few dug in tow rigs were seen as my buddy was leaving sun evening. But the town is vertually up, with many racers there.

This will be a Whole different race then most all anticipated. Open buggys and rigs will not do as well with this much mud and water being thrown up in to the rig and all over the electronics and such. not to mention a brawler on a wet rock will be even worst at traction then it is on dry, and dry they are not the best to start. I think the goodyear kevlar rigs might have a advantage now, slightly but a advantage...

Just someplace a few big RV's can get to.
