Looking to replace my 96. There's a 98 here local. Here's the deal...

It's a 98, 134k miles, second owner, auto with ABS (yes I know ABS is ghey)
Issues it has...

Driver side window (power) is off of the track, motor works but doesn't go back up.

ABS light is on, the guy thinks the rotors need to be turned...?

Missing front right fender flare/bumper end cap.

Jeep has been sitting since June and developed a slight tranny leak (was a small puddle under the car, probably a cumulative 50 drops or so if I had to guess, wasn't a huge puddle.

I also noticed a little bit of an oil drip after we took it for a test drive, appeared to be coming from the rear of the engine block, rear main seal i'm guessing? I couldn't get down all the way as it was wet and dirty on the pavement and I was in my nice pants!

Cracked windshield, two cracks that go almost all the way across the windshield.

And I noticed the exhaust manifold is starting to crack right above the spacer where it meets the downpipe.

Typical rear struts only keep the hatch open when it's warm.
Paint is still in pretty good condish minus being a purpleish color.

The guy was asking $2200 to start, I asked him his lowest cash in hand, he said $1900 this week.

The seller just sent my wife a text saying "I know the Jeep has quite a few issues, so shoot me an offer"

I need some insight here please. What should we offer?

What we plan to do to the Jeep eventually: Turn it into a mild wheeler. A rig we can take on old forest trails, up the mountain, camping, road trips etc. So nothing major. Mild lift, 31"s etc.

i think for a 98 that is a good price but for what you will have to put in to it to get it running good and pass safty is a little bit. so i would say offer $1500 and see what they say. with them sending a text that means that they have not had to many people interested in it so you are the only persone that seem even a little bit interested and they don't want to miss out on selling it so they will take what ever you give them.

Two people test drove it last night, only one said they were going to talk to their old man about it...

Is the exhaust manifold for a 96 the same as for a 98? I've got a brand new one I had for my 96 that has about 40 miles on it. That could be an easy fix if it fits the same.

BTW. The ABS light means nothing. It's probably got a sensor thats been knocked loose. Turning the rotors has no effect on ABS systems.

Yep the abs light is most likly gonna be a wheel speed sensor!

That would be a great deal for a 98. It sounds like it's in pretty good shape. It has basically had the same wear and tear issues that my 99 has had, minus the issue with the window not rolling up. Just be prepared to do all that work. The exhaust manifold and rear main seal are two of my least favorite repairs on an XJ. Offer him $1500 and hopefully you'll have it home soon.
