does the o-ring go on position A or B? Do I need to pick the old one out somehow?

O-ring goes on position B - but there should be two O-rings and a Nylon spacer. O-ring - spacer - O-ring.

Typically, they come as a kit, which includes a new Nylon "ear clip" as well. They get installed all at once. Theoretically, they should be replaced every time the connexion is taken apart...

nope. ive had a ford and toyota for the last 15 years so i have not spent much time on auto repair. this jeep reminds me of my days when i owned a chevy. no offense to the chevy drivers. :)
