IIRC it was also used in the YJ's (Wranglers) to 92 or 93.

IIRC it was also used in the YJ's (Wranglers) to 92 or 93.

Renix was on XJ 4.0L's from 87-90. The Wrangler used a carburated 4.2L from 87-90 and in 91 switched to the HO 4.0L. 2.5L ones are a little different.

RENIX isn't an engine, it's a control system (although some small changes were made to the AMC242 - and probably the AMC150 - when RENIX was replaced with ChryCo OBD-I electronics...)

1984-1990 XJ and MJ with the AMC150 I4 and AMC242 I6 used RENIX controls (spec'd by Renault, built by Bendix,) which were also "pre-OBD." The GM173 V6 used General Motors controls, which were (I believe) OBD-I compliant.

The Renault Turbo Diesel (used until 1987/88) was also pre-OBD, but used its own control setup (which may have been a variation on RENIX/FENIX, but I've not been able to confirm this yet...)

If you've got a rig 1991 or later, it's not RENIX. Period.

5/90,

thanks for the clarification, had that feeling, what with all the threads on parts interchangability, but most occasions ignored threads on Renix :speepin:

Yeah - RENIX parts interchangeability is pretty much the same for any other AMC242 or AMC150 - save the electronics. The sensors might also physically differ, but do essentially the same things (the biggest difference being the TPS - the rest are pretty standard GM parts.)

Also note that the flywheel/flexplate and CPS won't interchange - they function differently on either side of the 1990/1991 break. You can, however, just swap the flywheel/flexplate and CPS without incident, if you are changing the control system over.

And, the intake ports were raised about 5/8", starting in 1991, which is what improved the "breathing" of the cylinder head. Therefore, the intakes won't swap easily (it CAN be done, but it's not a "plug-and-pray" swap) and the throttle bodies are also different. I'm trying to collect parts so I can sort out swap details...
