My 4 year old nephew/godson had open heart surgery today to fix a leaky valve (info here from a heartwalk done a couple weeks ago (http://heartwalksmc.org.kintera.org/teamtony)) and was out of surgery and in recovery when his heart went into arrest and crashed around 3:45 (as my sister and brother in law where watching him though the IC windows).
He was revived but his heart had a screwed up heartbeat and now he's back in surgery (not sure why) and my family who is at the hospital isn't told what's doing on either (it was a rush job)....I'm like 200 miles away nervous as a hell for my little buddy.
He's at Stanford Hospital under the care of world class physicians so that makes me feel better....I'm just worried, and it's been 2 hours.
I know you dont know me or him, but please keep good thoughts for him.

I send good vibes. My friends kid was born w/ to much pressure in her brain so they added a tube to forehead and under the skin to her stomach. 2 months later she is doing great, medical technology is great these days. have faith and dont stress out man, Jeremy

man, i was just in your neck of the woods with my wife's uncle darcy from Tranquillity. We were visiting his frined out there at the ranchoes who races ahrma motorcycles.
i say you have nothing to worry about, the boy is in the best place with the brightest minds. i know of a handfull of people who were taken care of real well at stanford med center.
i did my time at ucsf med center as an intern but always regarded Stanford as Top notch.
No worries. heck ,he's probably ok by the time you read this.

WOW!!! Thank you all for the good wishes...and I think it might have worked. :kissyou:
After being revived from the cardiac arrest (after 7 paddle attempts) last nights surgery lasted about 6 hours and they ended up replacing his valve that they just "fixed" with an artificial one. He started to wake a few hours later and his heart almost went into arrest again so they ended up using the padles on him again to get his heart to stabalize and get a regular beat.
He's been under for about 18 hours now and they cautious of him coming to because of what happened last time. Soooo, he's still not out of the woods yet but its getting closer.
Thanks again!!!!

thats the beauty of technology in medicine these days. these things they use in people to replace "parts" that are not functioning properly are designed to easily last a lifetime or longer!
also the perseverence of children is unlike that of any grownup. kids heal good , they are always optimistic. there is something to be said about children and how they cope with life. i could learn a thing or two from seeing how some of them cope with what they have been given yet they can still crack a smile before anyone i know.

Well as of yesterday Anotnio is off the breathing machine and breathing on his own. He's still in the ICU but he's doing WAY better. He can talk, he laughs, he's eating real food (mac & cheese) and on the road to recovery.
On a side note, I sent a link to this thread to my sister, both she and my brother-in-law read every response and it made them feel better knowing everyone was out there thinking about their son.
Thanks again for all the good wishes, they definitely helped!!!

Great news Joe!
I too had a time where i asked for prayers here for my son, the outpouring support was inspiring.
Mac and Cheese....that'll cure any ailment known to man...it's all a matter of time till he comes home now.
