Play in Dana 30 Pinion

Should I have play in my pinion when I grab the yoke and move it up and down? Gears, locker and axles were done a few months back and I'm pretty sure there was no play then.

No. There should be no play in the pinion either axially, or perpendicular to its axis. There should be some play in the gears when rotating them, known as backlash.

thats what i thought. probably a blown pinion bearing you think?

Improper adjustment mess the bearings or just a worn bearing set. Dont just tighten it. Read into the proper replacement procedure
