I was thinkng of getting off my parents insurance policy, and I looked into a few companies and Allstate gave me the best rate($116/month for 2 xjs, 20 year old male with some violations). people that have or had allstate can you tell me if there an ok company?

Insurance cost (and service) quality is very regional and cost wise is greatly influenced by your agent - I saved nearly 50% by changing agents ($1500/yr to $780/yr same policy coverage). Some agents are just more skilled (and willing) to execute disounts.
Allstate was good for us; however, I switched to Farm Bureau for an additional savings - down to $602/yr now.
Shop around - company and agent. If you have any military ties, USAA is one of the best in the nation.

Check out Erie, GEICO, a few of the other internet ones, I've had Erie for quite a few years.

I had Allstate back in the day. They were a bit on the high side, but the service was fantastic. Car got broken into and about $1500 worth of audio gear was stolen while parked on base. Took the police report to my agents office and walked out with a check 20 mins. later.
Just switched to Farmers a few weeks ago. They are about $700/yr. cheaper than Allstate for the same policy. Even when I was on active duty, GEICO always wanted a mint to insure me. Even after a 9 year stretch without any type of ticket, crash, or claim.
It's a pain, but shop around.

USAA is no cheaper for me than State Farm - both quote me around $62/month. I was never really impressed with their service - I like having a local agent there, instead of waiting days for someone to come out....

Weird -- I have USAA and never really had to wait that long for someone to come out.
I especially like USAA because it helps keep one bill with some other stuff I have through them.

I don't know if everyone can get their insurance, though.

I had Allstate for 20 years on 4+ vehicles and the home. The bride side swiped a pole in a parking lot and it was a $1,500 claim to get fixed. Allstate dropped my safe driver discount & charged a $500 assessment for three cycles (a cycle being every six months). I dropped them and went with USAA.
My feeling on Allstate is "You're in good hands...until you file a claim!"

You might be under his policy and won't have your own policy.

You are supposed to be active duty or a dependent of active duty. But they had a great year and seem to be expanding. They might have changed it to immediate family included too.

Well, I know you can add someone who is not a dependent ... e.g. my girlfriend.

yea, I know you can do that. If I had not joined the military I could have still gotten USAA for myself as a dependent of my father. It would have been separate from him. If you and your gf separate, would she get to keep her own coverage if you drop her from yours? You can choose to insure pretty much anyone within reason.

USAA started insuring my 27yo daughter last year. She hasn't been a dependent in a while.

I have been with Bristol West for a while, started off at 260 month for my ZJ (Full Coverage, previous suspended licence) now I only pay 75 a month...

Not sure what happens if we separate. Right now, she's under my policy so I imagine they'd drop her.
Once we get married, I bet it's different.

I had thm once because they were the cheapest I could find. I got into an accident and the people sued me (I was listed not at fault) because insurance only covered they're 1 yr old Kia Spectra up to $10k. I checked the value, and fully loaded, with 3000 miles, it barely crossed over $11k. It took me calling every day for over 2 weeks to finally get a hold of someone and their response was sorry, nothing we can do. My Cpl called them back, with the backing of my fresh from DI duty Gunny, and after the 6th voicemail machine (asking to speak to the last persons superior each time) the first one finally called back and agreed to retain a lawyer on my behalf. The lawyer went to court and got the other party's claims thrown out. In the end it worked out, but I wouldn't wish Bristol West on anyone.
