Do printers always come with an extremely short USB cable.

It also came with a "Getting started for windows and OS-X"
and a "Getting started with mac"
Why 2 macs? I don't know but the windows one doesn't even cover the basic operation just the setup.

Why 2 macs? I don't know but the windows one doesn't even cover the basic operation just the setup.I got the same thing when I first hooked up my cable modem. The great part was, it didn't work. when I called tech support, they figured out the problem was I was using the disc at all. Turns out the Mac didn't need to be set up. (Why they had the install, I still don't know)
Odds are, they have 2 setups for mac; OS-10-forward, and OS-9-down. Entirely different systems, not backwards/forwards compatible.

Ahh I see it would still be nice if they had a windows setup with the details. I'm using the mac one right now to setup my wireless. I guess I'll see how it goes I've never had a wireless printer before.
Cool it gave me 7 Icons of bloatware! I'm stoked.

Is it an HP? I set my HP up for wireless and it was working good till my wife hooked the USB cable up and now just printing works. I'm to lazy to uninstall and reinstall the software.
HP's website said something about different software causing the other not to work.

It's a cannon Mx860 I read in the Mac manual that it can't run wireless and wired at the same time. Also you have to turn on wireless manually on the machine.
It works pretty good I scanned this photo last night.

All my printers are networking printers with ethernet at home. USB sucks and is a major thing that keeps me wasting time fixing them here at work. A reboot usually fixes it though, seems the printer drivers get unloaded when memory gets too busy and won't reload. Then comes getting rid of their 'shopping for supplies' software and all that other crap they stick on it for internet printing, etc. The first time I uninstalled a full install of a all in one machine you would swear the world was going to come to an end, the sun would not rise again and you'd suffer from ED for the remaining years of your life for all the freaking warnings they kept popping up trying to remove it and the 'are you sure' crap.
I will admit though it took me a couple of hours to figure out you could not have the USB and ethernet plugged in at the same time.
Then I rediscovered an old HP ftp site that has just the bare drivers.

I'll probably look into getting rid of the bloatware after my next reformat. I don't really feel like fixing something that isn't broken right now :D

I got the Canon M640 the other day for us at home. I thought the wireless setup was stupid easy (using the disc) - this was for WinBlows though. Anyway - works great and you're right about that scanner (and photo printer) being amazing. I printed the first pic, showed the g/f, and she said "when did you go and get that printed at Walgreens?" :D

I can't remember the last time I printed a picture let alone on good paper. Now that my new blueray player and TV both have USB and card slots for memory cards it will be even less than the -0- I print now :D :D :D
Kind of like a watch, have not worn one in years, not since I got out, with the cell phones, computers, clocks in the jeeps it's just an annoyance to me.
Voice T1 is back up and avaya phone system is rebooted and running, I"m outta here....

What can I do to clean these scans up? I thought the splash was bad but these came out much worse.
