so since i signed up i have been reading the mod and oem forums like crazy...i'm not much of a wrench turner, but willing to try..some of it i can understand and some i don't..

on to the questions..

i have a 90 laredp xj, 4.0 i use as my dd..i asked here before about some mods to get me to a point where i can start some wheeling on easier trails..

well a friend recently gave me a set of 31" bg at's on rims from his jeep and i am kinda at a loss as too how much lift i need to fit them on my heep...since you guys know how the local trails are i figured i'd get better info here than someone who wheels in a different enviroment than us wetsiders...

also, where are some good local shops and junkyards for parts? i'm in the tacoma area...

thanks

i was told to get good tires, rear shackles, front sway disconnects and to ditch my rear sway bar..

wow...somehow my post got scrambled up...smart phones and low tech people don't mix well...

With 31's you can get by with a 3 1/2 inch left. And for the j-yard call
253-631-4390 George. He has 30 or so rigs there

I would do a 3 inch lift. Buy front coils from your choice of manufacturers, and build bastard packs.

You can fit 31's with a basic budget boost (2" coil spacers and 1.5" shackles) and as long as you adjust your bumpstops then you would be ok. However, like others have said, you would be better off with 3" coils and a new rear pack or aal/shackle or other combo. With the 3" lift you will want new shocks, with the budget boost you can get away without them.

Either way, it is important to adjust your steering stops, bump stops so you don't put your tires in your fenders.

Also, the more you are willing to trim your fenders the less lift you need. You could fit 31's with no lift if you trim enough.

You can make your own front sway bar disco's, and yes, most people remove their rear sway bar entirely.

Michael

I alway recommend you do the lift yourself. You will learn from the process and and better understand your Jeep and how it works. Particularly things like the bumpstops, shock travel, control arms, etc. If you basic mechanical skills and basic tools you should be fine. You will need a couple of jack stands, floor jack, and basic tools.

I would look at Rubicon Express and or Rusty's. Both I believe make decent lift components at decent prices. If you want to save money, I would keep an eye out for people selling used components on here.

Does that help?

Mine did it's job perfectly for more than 8 years. After 8 years all it needed was a new TRE.

Rubicon Express makes good stuff. If you don't have the tools or space to do the install, give John at Auburn Car Repair & Offroad a shout. His username is Avanteone on the board.

Have a rusty's track bar, its doing fine and i beat the crap out of my jeep. it leaves the ground on a regular basis.

as for 31's, 3'' with no trimming or some trimming with no lift.
with 33's i had 3'' of lift and minimal trimming.

I buy all my sh** from rustys and have never had any problems and I`ve beat my last jeep up pretty bad. Then did an body switch and still don`t have any problems. Except normal wear like bushings. I wish i bought my gears from rustys instead of Yukon. Now there junk and that was an spendy waste of money. Rustys has an 10 year warrenty and Yukon has an 1 year and tire restictions.

x2 on the Rusty's. I run their 4.5" full spring lift and LOVE it. I wouldn't mess around with 3", personally. You will just want to go up in the future. The flex it gets is outstanding, and the price is right. :)
