Swapping Gage Clusters

Yes when swapping from the idiot lights to actual guages you need to install the correct senders to interact properly.

I agree with this for the OP's year.

In the late models a combo gauge/idiot light system was employed, and changing senders isn't required.

Easy enough to check.

Go to rockauto.com or your online vendor of choice and check out the year in question to see if there is a gauge sender and a different light sender.

If you pulled the cluster yourself, go back and get the senders from the donor rig, along with the "female" end of the harness, and about a foot of the donor wiring harness, in case the plugs are different.

If you have to buy new senders, don't even tell the counter person what you did...You'll just confuse them. Ask for the sending units for the year of the donor, and make sure to specify gauge senders, not warning lights. One gives a range of values for the gauge sweep, the other is an "on/off" single value.
