The Steel Yard off of columbia in Portland, they have some good discounts on surplus steel if you don't mind cleaning a little rust off. If I don't want to drive across the water I go to East Side steel on 4th plain.

I've heard about the yard off Columbia, I'll have to check them out. I've gone to Eastside on 4th plain in the past, and agree they can be a bit pricey.

i seem to get good prices at the guy off fourth plain over by ducts. He will even give ya some free scraps if you find something you need in the yard not worth to much.

Clackamas Steel on Hwy212
Dunno what prices are like compared to other yards, but they have a pretty good sized remnant yard if you don't mind grinding off a little surface rust.

One cool place is the www.metalsupermarket.com (http://www.metalsupermarket.com) off of 84th and industrial..
When the weather blows I like to go there. its all indoors. they kind of cater to the hobbiest.

last time i was there that mexican guy got off his fork lift, it started rolling so he leaned over to hit the brakes, but missed and hit the gas and it crashed into the metal rack
