HOw can i tell what rear axles i have

I'm trying to find out what rear axles i have, im starting 2 look around for lift kits for my 97 XJ country its 4.0 4wd and i think its the NP242 it has 2wd-4wd part-time 4wd full-time N then 4wd low part time its also aw4 tranny. Is there n e clear way to tell what rear axle you have. Thanks guys

yeap, search, this is asked about once every two days

if you have a flat lip at the bottom of a fat ovular diff box you have an 8.25

if you have a flush, slimmer oval diff box you have a D35

On a 97, unless the rig has ABS its more than likely you have the 8.25.

thanks guys, now i just need 2 find a nice lift kit i was thinkin RE super ride 3.5" with the rear leaf packs, i dont do serious off roading, i live on a beach so not much doing here just sand dunes so i think the 3.5 should b fine.
