Every Spring some friends and I go on a fishing trip for a long weekend. We typically go to Black Lake in NW New York, but this year we want to try something new. There are a few places in Ontario that we might try, but we also wanted to look into Maine, NH, or VT.

Anyone know a good fishing lodge that offers a secluded setting, decent accomodations (cabins or lodge - not looking to tent), good fishing, boat rentals, and what not?

This place is well known for it's fishing, it used to be called "Pray's Big Eddy" but it looks as though it may have been sold.

I camped here years ago, they had just built a few cabins. Very peaceful place, i can still remember the sound of the Loons.

Not sure on the lodging/spots, but NH licenses are way expensive for non-residents :(

Maine non resident fee.

7-Day Fishing (16 & older) - $43.00

3-Day (72-hour) Fishing (16 & older) - $23.00

1-Day (24 hour) Fishing (16 & older) - $11.00

It's cheaper than getting popped for not having a license. :eyes:

VT has best prices for out of state fishing licenses, but accomodations are expensive.

Check out Lake Champlain....good fishing!

Come to Northern NH! Not sure how many of you there are, but I have room for a couple people, or there are lots of people that rent cabins around here. Vary Secluded, lots of dirty road to the middle of no where, and tons of fishing. Umbagog in Errol, NH is a great place to start, or greenough pond. Check out the google map.

If you end up coming up this way let me know and i'll point you in the good direction. :wave1:

PS

Think i may have met you one afternoon coming from my sisters house in Norristown. You were in a delivery truck, I was in a black XJ.

I believe that was me. You were sitting in a parking lot near the WAWA at RT. 202 and 63?

I know a cabin on a lake in Abbot ME that you can rent REAL cheap, usually for free....the driveway is also the boat launch. It's a house away from my in-laws on Whetstone Pond, absolutely beautiful area, and about 20 or so mins from Greenville and the Moosehead Lake region, TONS of lifted XJ's up there too :farmer:

sure is, put it this way, .5 miles from my in-laws driveway the pavement stops for a while. About 10 mins from Greenville and you are in the unincorporated towns of Maine, pretty sure you can shoot whatever/whoever you want up there without issue.:piratefla

I thought I'd bring my old thread back again.

We did go to Crotch Lake this past Spring and had a blast. Absolutely beautiful lake, great lodge, and darn good fishing.

Now we are starting to plan our trip for this coming spring, and we're back to the idea of NH, ME, or VT. But, instead of a fishing lodge (nice, but expensive), we would rather do some camping/canoeing/fishing.

First and foremost, the fishing has to be good. Second, it must be relatively remote/peaceful etc etc. And lastly, well, the first two just about cover all we care about.

Any ideas???????

A good idea is to look into the VT State parks a lot of them have cabins or lean-tos. And there are some good lakes, like Silver Lake state park, Camp Plymouth state park, Bomoseen State park,. I work at Silver lake now and there and some good fishing.I got 5lb 9oz largemouth yesterday and one that was 6+ this spring and a number of northerns over 32 in. hope this gives you a few idea / helps out a bit

Acadia/Bah Habah is nice, but remote with good fishing it is not. Try the Rangeley/Oquossic area, Greenville area, or anywhere thats in the Western Mountains. Ill be spending my fall fly fishing Little Kennebago, its a favorite of my fathers and about an hour from where I work. http://www.cupsupticcampground.com/ is a fairly popular place for this kind of stuff, check out thier wilderness camping sites. Ive stayed at thier places near Big Falls. Its just one of many up this way if your looking for fly fshing and camping.
