Radio Compatibility

I am looking to move into the 21st century by upgrading my cassette radio...

I have found numerous OEM radios on Ebay such as the RES and REF out of Chrysler vehicles but am wondering if they will fit in a 97 XJ...I am not opposed to making a custom mounting bracket if the dimensions allow it...

I just like the newer OEM radios as opposed to an aftermarket pioneer or the like...and it will allow me to use the UConnect system...

As long as it's a standard DIN or 1/2 DIN (forget which) it should be adaptable, you may need a bracket or something. To get a new radio into my friend's 91 MJ I ended up tack welding the bracket from his old Honda into the bracket from the MJ, worked great... first time I've ever used an arc welder to install a radio though.

Electronics are pretty easy to set up, the connector in the XJ has 8 wires for the 4 speakers, constant power, accessory power, a display dim signal, and one or two others I forget, maybe options for a powered antenna.

These all fit an 00 XJ and should fit any 97-01 XJ. Any simliar 3 letter code radio from the donor list should fit also.

ok, so thats a no on any 2002 and newer OEM radios?

This is where buying online fails...would be a lot easier if I could buy one at walmart, see if it fits, then return it if it didn't...
