gas gauge

My gas gauge is all messed up in my 84 xj. sometimes, but not very often, it reads normal, but any other time the needle goes all the way forward past the "F" and it aims strait down. Any ideas on the problem/solution? thanks guys

Well, its probably your gas gauge sending unit.. which, in that case.. get a new one and have fun, cuz its a PITA....

BUT ALSO!!! Erratic gauges are a sign of bad engine ground :(

hmmm ill check the grounds, but if its a sending unit, ill just carry an extra gas tank and fill up often like i do now lol

lol.. yeah.. you can do like me and just fill up at 150 miles on the odo :D:D
