What would be some of the requirements of a Jeep to be able to participate in this?
What Alex meant to say was:
"Because this is an official NAXJA event, the minimum requirements are specified somewhere in the bylaws."
Anyways, here's the minimum requirements:
Section 3: Required Equipment for Event Participation
1. NAXJA VERY HIGHLY recommends that all event participants have a CB Radio.
2. NAXJA requires all listed items to be present, and available for use, for a vehicle to be permitted to participate in a event. Participants are expected to stow equipment and all other items within their vehicle in a safe manner, conscious of the effects of OHV use and possible shifting of items.
3. NAXJA Safety Inspectors will use this list for safety inspections prior to any event. The Safety Inspector has final say in approval or rejection of any vehicle for event participation and may at anytime defer to a second event or club officer for additional ruling.
4. NAXJA expects each event participant to carry insurance and registration sufficient to meet the legal requirements of their vehicle state of residence and for the roads and trails traveled for the event. NAXJA is not responsible for assuring an entrant's vehicle is legal for the roads and trails traveled in the event.
Equipment List
1. Visibly charged fire extinguisher (BC or ABC)
2. First aid kit
3. Adequate spare tire, jack and lug wrench
4. Safety belts for driver and any current passenger
5. Adequate attachment points in the front and rear of the vehicle:
1. Acceptable forms of attachment points: (All Items must be mounted in a manner to provide adequate strength and integrity)
2. Tow hooks of OEM or greater integrity
3. D-Rings
4. Shackle/Clevis
6. 20ft 10,000lb snatch strap without any metal hooks
7. Secured battery (no bungee cords)

I hate those damn things. They look great when they're all there, but they always get hung up on shit and end up ripping off. I still haven't found a replacement for the rear passenger door piece that I lost near the rocks, but eventually they're coming off and I want to have some flatfender styles welded up. Found out today that I might need to regear/complete axle rebuilds, so I gotta start saving for all the repairs before this coming NWfest!

So similar to last year we'll have a few volunteer opportunities to help out with this years event.
We're going to need:
Trail Coordinator - Someone to come up with a schedule of runs for each day.
Trail Leaders - A few people to lead the various runs scheduled for each day.
Greeter/Registration - A few people to help get new arrivals signed in.
Raffle Organizer - Someone to start begging companies for some raffle donations. (I'll be working on this one)
Dinner Organizer - In charge of the Saturday night dinner logistics. (I'm going to assume John has this covered)
Tech Inspectors - A few people who can do a quick run down of the rigs, and make sure everyone is set for the trail.
We can definitely not have too much help for this event. Right now I'm just looking to see who would be interested in helping out, and we can fine tune the jobs later.
Also, there will be a quick "tech/safety" inspection very similar to years past. Most of you should have this stuff covered already. If not, you have 6 months to get it done.
Make sure your rig has the following:
- Full size spare tire*
- First aid kit
- Fire Extinguisher (visibly charged)
- Secured Battery (no bungees to arc out)
- Front tow point
- Rear tow point
- Tow strap with no metal hooks
* There will be some exceptions for a spare tire. Obviously if you run bead locks, carry a plug kit, and have air source you'll be fine. However, having a spare tire is strongly encouraged.

Little Naches Rd is right around mile marker 92. The road parallels the river as you head north, after a couple of miles you take the left fork that bridges over the river, heading west for another 1/2 - 3/4 mile. Road becomes gravel and turns left, take the first left into Long Meadow. It opens up, gravel road passes a concrete shat-house, we've typically camped a bit past that in the wide open meadow. There will be some signs along the way, the preponderance of XJs and assholes will tell you that you've arrived.

Yes.
Everyone is welcome from stockers to jungle gyms. There may not be a lot of "easy" runs to choose from, but you could also grab an open seat as well. If you don't have a lot of off road experience, a ride along is a great way to pick up tips and tricks.

I bear ill tidings. Just found out this weekend that my wife's niece (whom she is very close with, like a little sister) is getting married on June 26th. Me begging-off on attending this wedding is not an option, so I wil not be making NWFest this year. :( Sucks for me, as that was my carrot on the stick for a ready date for the new XJ, as well as being a great all-around trip and event. Oh well, I'll still try to get it all squared-away by then anyways.
So Michael and others involved in planning this, I will not be available for trail leader activities and the like. At least I discovered it now and not a couple of weeks prior to the event. That'd be crushing.

I can change the date of the wedding. Just give me some info on where it will be. :)

Although, this now means Lyle's off the hook on the tent situation. :D

I won't have a cad like you sullying the reputation of my 25 year old sweet, hot, D-cup-sized niece. Although I know your offer was sincere and with the best interests of all parties at heart.
Oh, and Lyle and I will have other opportunities to bond off-road. As men sharing a common passion and interest, not in the sick way insinuated by a few perverse minds trolling the cesspools here.

A little? All we have to do is ask you to leave the Capt' at home and we'll have an event so sober you would think we're in Utah.:confused1

Sounds like it'd boring as Hell with no Party Hat nor Sweatpants Dance. The real question is, will there be Jeep stripping? I might skip the wedding for that.

Good for you Nick! That is something to be proud of, that is a lot of running for someone who is new to running. Most people don't understand how difficult it is to complete the training and event.
We will miss you at NWFest, I will be thinking of you.

If I had to pick one event to attend, it would be NWF. I would highly suggest trying to make plans to come out for this.
The event is taking place outside Naches, WA (about 4hrs from PDX). Directions to our base of operations can be found in the "NWF Info" thread.
If your curious about membership, take a look at the "NWC Membership Drive" thread in the Northwest Chapter.
Hope you can make it out. There will be a good number of us from the PDX area heading up there earlier in the week.

I've already started making the preparations as far as getting out of work and making sure the girlfriend can get out of her stuff (although secretly if she can't I dont mind cause I'll just bring a buddy)
Lotta you guys bring campers and stuff, or is a tent sufficient??
Mc2KXJ
April 14th, 2010, 23:23
A tent is sufficient, but anything above that is nicer.
TORX
April 14th, 2010, 23:25
The luxury of a camper would definitely be nice. However, I just use a tent and have no complaints. I think there's even a few who sleep in the back of their XJ's. Just depends on how much stuff you want to haul out there.

Absolutely!
If you thought Noobfest was big, just wait for Northwest Fest. One of the changes from last year though, is that you need to be a member to attend (think club run), or invited as a guest by a member (each member is allowed 1 guest vehicle). So if your not set on becoming a member yet, see if someone has a guest spot available.
I will say though Naches is worth every minute of the drive from Portland, and you will have a blast with your Jeep up there.
