1/2 does not come out of 1st

96 xj classic, aw4, 4wd. when i shift from a stop to 12, it stays in 1st, and wont shift to 2nd. put it in 3 and it shifts to 2nd then 3rd. ovderdrive works fine and shifts perfectly normal.

just wondering whats wrong?
 
Lucky! I had to buy a kit from BrettM to get mine to do that.

in 1/2 the shift point is at way higher rpm's. have you revved it up in 1 to see if it's actually not shifting or if you are just not getting to the shift point?
 
It won't shift from first to second until the engine is redlined when in that shifter spot. That's why the 1-2 shift switch mod is so popular.
 
so do you guys mean truely redlined? i had it ip to about 5-6k rpms and it didnt shift. i dont think ive gone higher.
 
it should shift around 4500-5000

now try being in the mud, barely moving tached out,and the tranny is nice enough to shift for you and suddenly you don't have enough torque to keep em rolling.
 
Thats easily fixable though, just stay out of the mud.
 
I've had enough stucks to last the rest of my life.
