View Full Version : Anti-Valentines Snow Run 2/13 in Weare, NH

Now that it's getting cold and we had our first snow storm of the year, it's time to get together for another run at my place. For those of you who haven't been up here yet, it is 54 wooded acres with 3 cut trails and multiple large obstacles. Warning: Body Damage is likely. Ask anyone who has been here before. If you don't want to wheel, you are more than welcome to come out and watch. All the trails are only a short walk from the house.
To keep this event interesting, we will make it pot-luck. Entrance fee is food to be shared at the end of a day of wheeling. I will supply some burgers and dogs. We can hang out afterwards if anyone wants and watch some wheeling videos (KOH 2008, KOH 2009, etc...).
Start time will be approximately 11am. Post up if you are interested or planning on coming. I will send out PM's with the address to everyone coming about a week prior to the event. Now let's go wheeling!!!

if I can get bumpers by then I will be there to wheel (should have a spare by then), just need the recovery points. If I can't get the recovery points I will be there to watch!
If I can make it down some trails with 33x12.50 AT's on 3.5" lift, body damage is welcome :D If that isn't enough to get me down the trails I will have to wait for another time. I will be sure I am painted by then so I can leave with the 'bleeding Jeep'

I wouldn't be surprised. Not in this Jeep though!
I did swear it was never going bigger than 32s, and dammit treadwright was out of 32s when I ordered today, so it looks like 285/75r16s are on the fedex truck... they round down to 32 I guess :eyes:
Sad thing is, they were cheaper than 32s from a "real" manufacturer by a long shot, and price is what drives a lot of my jeep decisions right now.

Lobster,
Rob,
I got a 99 sport with a 4.5" on 32" BFG all terrains, but no rock sliders or any armor actually. Any trails I could handle with a little less body damage? (Plus its my DD so if i break it i am walking home so keep that in mind)

with the snow it will be very hard to avoid body damage at Lobsterville

Some how I managed no body damage last time but only because of my sliders. If you're not open to damage I wouldn't suggest running.
I might be able to come, but I won't be wheeling. If someone has a passenger seat open that day I'll be more then happy to keep it warm for ya ;).

hmmmm, so my previous comment about 3.5" and 33's where I don't care about damage... I also dont have sliders/armor... woudl I end up with alot of unibody/rocker/door damage or is it mostly sliding into stuff (aka body damage) to be worried about?
If it's body damage, I am fine with that. If it's unibody, etc... I think I would prefer to armor my unibody/rails before tweaking them too bad, so if there is a high likelyhood of that type of damage I may reconsider throwing myself out there... though I will be there regardless :) and if I get there and see people wheeling there is an 88.935% chance taht I will say "screw it, I'm bringing my rig out to play" even if unibody damage is likely

Body damage would be the biggest worry as the trails are tight in some spots and will be slick. Most of the damage has been glass or putting the body into a tree.

I wonder what will happen this time? The way things are going I'll be pulled over for being a drunk burglar and given a speeding ticket.

Oh yeah, and what about the hosts of this run? What will they be driving? I know a certain first lady wouldn't mind having a running XJ to drive to work in bad weather... So what's the good word, will there be a running lobster rig? :gag: :D

In order to qualify for Pano's, you need to recieve extensive body damage ("extensive" to be determined by whoever pays for the Pano's food). :) This oughta provide a little excitement on the trail. "Ahh, damn. look at my rocker." .... "Ya think that's enough for Pano's, dude? I dunno, keep going!!" .... "Hmm, yeah... alright!" *cruch crunch drag drag smash crash pop*

Hmmm I might have to carefully aim for beating the living crap out of my drivers door and nothing else then, is that good enough? :spin1:
Since it's all scored up from the vandals I've been considering aiming for things with it, but trying to keep the rest of the XJ as clean as it is now.

hmmm we'll see how bad the door is. If Dukes of Hazard activities are required there's a good chance you get some roast beef.

Hmmmmmm. This should be interesting.
Really, as long as I don't screw up my rear quarters I won't be too too sad. I can pick up (and may well pick up) rear doors from a white 96 Sport just like mine at the junkyard for $50 a whack if I really decide I want it to be pretty... there are some there *right now* so I might swipe em for making it look nice again. Front fenders I don't really give a flying flip about, I have a spare set sitting on my back porch, and rockers are going to be replaced with 2x6" tubing when they finish rusting out. Oh, and I'll try to avoid hurting the hatch and the roof drip rails. Other than that :dunno: I can replace it pretty cheap but I'd rather avoid the hassle.
The vandals managed to put a nice dent/take the paint off RIGHT at the line between the driver side front and rear doors. :soapbox:

you got it! my 96 is definitely a red headed stepchild of the XJ family, nearly as bad as the 84-86 range. The fuel gauge sender wiring is fairly complicated for absolutely no reason and comes nowhere near close to matching either the 95- or the 97+ designs. lastara
And I haven't managed to scrape together the money for a 96 FSM, so I'm kinda pissing in the wind so far as to what resistances I should be seeing on the 3 (yes, that's right. Plus some of them are ground referenced. WTF) fuel gauge sender wires.

If you want to run trails, one locker is required.
With one locker, I would say body damage is guaranteed

Also, if you have a winch, I would make sure you have it on and working. It will probably get used!

While welding on some rockers today I got a good look at my rear tire. only got maybe 1/4" tread left (on an A/T), maybe a bit more.
Maybe I will try and get some new tires this month, idk if that is enough tread to get me through a day of wheeling.

Something in the rear end of my Jeep is making angrier and angrier noises right now actually, I'm hoping it's either the 8.25/driveshaft or my exhaust or maybe just grinding noises from the transmission coming through the unibody in a funny way. My suspicion is that I've been "just living with" the driveshaft vibrations for too long. I think I might drop the 8.8 in within the next week or two whether I can figure out the right driveshaft length or not.
If all else fails, it looks like I'll be buying the MJ within a week or two at the most, so I'll drive that up if my XJ blows up.
Ross - should I pull the carrier/bearings/shafts out of the 8.8 or are they OK to leave in while preheating it? Also, are you going to be around anytime between now and 2/13? We have TCUs to chop up and axles to weld...

Its easy one has vegetables and one doesnt. Caesar's a good filler especially when chicken is applied.

Caesar's my preference, I'll eat either though.
Chef salad is pretty good too... loaded up on ham/cheese/chicken/other stuff, way more expensive to make though.

Potato Cannon?

themangeraaad
February 1st, 2010, 15:20
My potato cannon uses less fire and more compressed air.. About on par with a normal aerosol cannon... No fire makes it less cool... but a normal potato cannon with aerosol fires at around 20psi IIRC. Mine is regulated to around 120psi :D
And I can shoot liquid or whatever I want out of it since the barrel and chamber are completely independent. I should dig that thing out one of these days...

I agree...
BUT I did this for my highschool science fair project. I did a study on the affect of increased pressure behind a projectile and the reduction of gains at higher pressures...
...and I managed to come up with an excuse to build a remote fired pneumatic cannon for a school project, which in turn won me an honorable mention in the school science fair . The cannon I built for this project was fired by a remote up to 50 ft away (for "safety", and since the handheld pneumatic cannon that I already had wasn't "precise" (aka expensive) enough, so instead of opening a valve by hand I used an electronically operated valve :D)

Just to let you know (grammatical nit-picking...)
"Anti-Valentines" means "against Valentine's Day."
"Ante-Valentines" would mean "before Valentine's Day."
Considering you're planning the run for 13FEB (the day before Valentine's Day,) this thread would probably be more properly entitled "Ante-Valentine's Day Run."
Sorry - couldn't help myself...

My Wife and I hate Valentine's day so I did mean "Anti-"... It's a poor excuse for a hallmark made holiday. So I decided to hold an event on a weekend most people might get forced into going out or away by a significant other. I thought wheeling would be a more fun option!

:dunno: I'm kinda down with both ideas.
I shot a #0 phillips screwdriver through a computer with my old cannon once... handle bounced back, shaft (1/4" steel bar) went through the side panel, motherboard tray, both sides of the HDD rack, and out the other side panel. We never did find the bar, just a 2 foot long 1" wide chunk of turf removed from the lawn about 20 feet away and a divot in the asphalt of a cross street another 70 feet past that. A few gallons of compressed air at 160psi is something I respect quite well.

One it is. And I will be sure to bring an arsenal of old broken parts from my rig if mine isn't able to drive up :laugh3: Maybe I will just pull and old 8.25 shaft or 2. use as a baseball bat to deflect other parts/attacks.
Speaking of which. I have a C8.25 that I can bring parts from incase anyone needs parts or spares... Right now I have no clue if it is 27 or 29 spline though I would guess it is 27 (It was a JY axle and I never checked spline count). It should have good brakes. new shoes/drums back in 05 or 06. Also I can bring spare rear glass for a 2 dr off a '93 (I cant remember if the glass changed for the '96 model). The glass may be worth a couple $$ to me though, so keep that i mind :D I know I will be breaking my glass at some point so yeah...
LMK if there's anything that I should bring. Unless someone can sell me a front axle geared to 4.88s my rig wont be wheeling this time around :(

However on that note, I feel like a mounted air cannon would go over very well. :eyes: hell it doesn't matter if I show up in the altima or the XJ... Either way... Devious... :D
Edit: Since this is at lobster's... how many would be interested in lobster rolls? A local place to me had and/or has the phantom gourmet's #1 lobster roll.. On a side note: anyone got an open seat in their rig? I wouldn't mind getting a bit of experience from the passanger seat so I will be ready to wheel once my rig is done (I have never gone legit wheeling yet)
