occasionally under wot conditons, my engine will temporarialy "stall" at around 3000-3500 rpm. If i keep my foot pinned to the floor it will go away and continue to pull strong up to about 4700 rpm where power dramatically decreases. I have been experiencing this problem off and on for about 2 years.
When i say it is stalling, i mean it pretty much feels like i have hit a the fuel shutoff, and i lose all acceleration.
it also only happens in first or second gear.
p.s. 98 4.0 ax-15
thanks in advance for your help!!

Mine is doing the same thing but it feels like a cylinder is not firing only once as RPM's climb. It is inconsistant though different RPM's.
Does yours cut out for seconds, what is the duration?
I'd almost describe mine as a single cough.
I'm going to check plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and T.P.S.

I had the same problem, check all the wires to your distributor, even the one, below, that leads to the motor. also, their is a breather hose on the side of the fuel injection system, to the right of the throttle body, if that gets clogged up it will cause the cough you are talking about. Mine was coughing llike that for a while and I decided to let it work itself out, and it left me stranded on the side of the road, so fix it now. it turns out, my breather tube fell off, and I found mud in the FI system.
