So i have noticed something with a few of you guys on this thread. It kinda agrivates me depending on what exactly you mean when you use the term "newbie." Do you mean new to the world of offroading, or new to the world of NAXJA? See i have been wheeling for 9 years now but i have just recently joined this forum? So does that make me a newbie? I guess the point that im trying to make is that why are "newbies" not welcome on so many runs? How do they learn what to do and what not to do? How do they learn how to drive on the trails? How do they learn how they need to set up their rigs? If someone wouldnt have said "hey come wheeling with us" 9 years ago how would i have learned? We all have to learn somehow and somewhere. Im not bashing anyone or trying to put a sour taste in anyones mouth. Im just trying to clarify. Thanks.

well newb is a term for the inexperanced. in wheeling, tred lightly, and forest edicate.
there is not a shun on newbies here. and the resion wev been talking about it is because we dont want people to feel like ther being singled out or discriminated aginst.
i love seeing new faces and wheeling with people from all walks of life and rigs of all modification. even stock."makes it fun"
if your a newbie most likely ull know it. ull get that felling out on the trails or when thinking about taking your rig on some of the trails out there. and its all a learning and fun experance.
please dont feel offended please and id luove to see you on the trails with us sometime.

WTF? You can spell "discriminated," but not "they're" or "love?" You're freakin crazy man!
So as I've mentioned 1000 times lately, I'm terrible with names. I could spot ya out of a crowd, I know where you work, how many kids ya have, what color your rig is, and where your new dents are, but I'll be damned if I can remember your name! For that, I apologize. AGAIN. (I'm Paul or PJ if it helps.)
I don't really know where this newb hating began. A few years back, Matt (IXNAYXJ) held a few runs where there were minimum requirements for vehicles. Nothing against anyone, but it was in everyone's best interest based on the terrain and conditions for which the event was being held. IIRC, Matt was also one to host a NOOBFEST in Tahuya. Lately though it does seem to be much more off putting and rather rude. Hopefully things will subside and folks be more understanding here in the very near future.
If you get into your Orting house, you're welcome out with me and my more "hardcore" buddies anytime.

To me it's someone with little or no wheeling experience. There are times that are better for people to learn than others. It's nothing personal.

X2.
Basically it comes down to sometimes it flat out IS NOT SAFE to bring a "new" guy (noob) on runs this time of year, or certain runs any other time of year.
There's a right and wrong time to teach someone how we (as wheelers) do things, noobs are always welcomed to ride a long...just not always suggested to be driving on runs. And when you start dealing with snow, I'd rather be doing it with guys I either personally know, or guys who I know have some experience (A.K.A. it's not their first run/ they have a built rig or at least have proved they know how to use what they've got).
The decision is ultimately up to the "trail leader" or the one who post a run whether or not you or anyone else can go on that specific run in your rig, and what the requirements are.

the only time i will "discriminate" against people goin on runs is usually during the winter. when it starts getting bad its just not fun or productive for people with rigs who arent capable of certain terrain to attempt it. but during the drier months i will wheel with just about anybody anywhere

On some runs limiting participants just make sense IMO. I go runs where everyone is welcome, usually the trails are mild and more of just an outing with friends. But there are times the run is to target difficult trails and if a person or their isn't capable of those sort of trails it isn't fun, for them or the rest of the group.
Not all the runs are like this, on group runs posted on the web you've got to expect some "newb" people, these are great to meet new people and make contacts. "Select" runs are usually best handled via private message and invite, less toes are stepped on or feelings hurt.

I feel if people wanted to get runs together via PM to keep it to the people they want to wheel with then that is a good thing. But on the other hand it is also good for newer people to be able to go on runs where people are planing on hitting harder trails. Not to try to take the trails and get stuck or break something but more maybe to be able to watch a more expierenced wheeler on a trail such as waterfall, crushers, can opener and so on (TSF trails). Not only is watching other people that have more expierence a good way for someone to learn but is also fun. Then you also have someone to take the pics.
I was once a newbie and oh hell I still am but the first run I went on was with a large group that hit some of the harder trails and I have to say it was fun to watch and I would like to feel that I went away with something new learned. With all that being said I think the term newbie is can and will be used both ways, new to the club/forum and new to wheeling but don't think it should be took personally.

I don't know what to say about this thread. I am new to wheeling. I don't want to ruin anyones day by breaking, or getting stuck. But at the same time, if i don't try then what? i just stick with a lifted mall crawler?
I havn't been around :NAXJA: very long. But i have felt like i am welcome here. I didn't go red because of pressure from members. I did it to support a site that helps me when i am stuck on a project.
As far as the chapter, this is the first thing 'ive seen that has made me wonder about it.

People make wheeling runs and there PM people that they want to go?
Wow that's kinda crazy!
I don't get why you would do that?
Every time I go wheel, I want all you guys there.

Ok first off my name is Justin. @nd. I had a BLAST wheeling with you guys that came on the evans creek trip. Me and Brandon got to talking on another thread and it started out as a small meet and greet and turned into a 10+ rigs wheeling trip. So thank you to all of you it was awesome and i cant wait to move and do it again. Lastly i dont take anything any of you had to say personal. I am ex military and i am currently a cop as some of you already know. I have been spit on, shot at, had rocks thrown at me, people wanting to fight me, etc. I dont take it personal. Anyways i was just wanting to clarify. I agree that there are a lot of trails that are ran that are not meant for a stock rig, or a very in experienced person to be on. I havent been on here long but it seems like most of the runs i have seen posted are for experienced wheelers and "noobs" are not allowed. Im just simply pointing out the fact that there are newer guys who are inexperienced but would like to learn. I consider myself semi experienced. I have wheeled all over eastern wa but never over here. When i was stationed in alaska we did ALOT! of snow wheeling in 40- weather. I have owned 5 cherokees in the last 5 years. But on the other hand i have never learned how to change an axle, or install gears etc. there is still a lot i have to learn and there is only one way to learn. By doing it! Im not trying to speak for myself im just using me as an example. And Tim i want you to know that i gained a very large amount of respect for you on the evans creek trip. When (gabriel i think) broke his axle. Me and the wife had to get going due to our long commute. We felt really bad about having to leave but we really didnt have a choice. You not only showed us and guided us back to the road since we were unfamiliar with the area, but you turned around and went back to help with the broken rig. It was cold and dark. Your a damn good person in my book. I could thank each and everyone of you individualy but i just had to mention tim specificly. Anyways if you made it through the novel congrats. Not trying to start an argument just talking. Thanks guys, (and gals in case there are any on here.)

I think the problem comes from noobs that don't act like noobs! If you are new to wheeling, listen to those with experience, don't be a know it all. There are rules, etiquette and just plain common sense things that need to be followed. When an inexperienced person comes on a run in an ill equipped rig (no recovery points, street tires etc.) it can ruin the run for a lot of people and be dangerous. Yes, we have all been there, and yes, we have all learned, but if you don't have the first clue as to what you are doing, MAN UP AND ADMIT IT! That way, the veterans can teach you and help you.

Noob, Newbie, whatever. On here it can be someone who is new at either the internet, forums or wheeling. The number one rule of this and any forum: chill out. The person posting may be having a bad day or just plain touchy and out of line. No need to drop to the lowest level. At 32 Years Old I was a Noob at the internet. At 38 I was a noob at NW Wheeling. Right now I'm a noob RPG game I've been playing and getting schooled by some snot nosed 18 year old. When I'm in my 60's I hope to be a Noob at partying on the beach in the Caribbean! Being a Noob ain't no big thing unless you wear it as a chip on your shoulder.
