Some of you remember this!
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g125/nick83882002/1247517391.jpg

Well I'm doing this to fix it!
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g125/nick83882002/Mobile%20Uploads/utf-8BSU1HMDAyMzUuanBn.jpg
3 link, adjustable raidus arm on the driver side and just a lower on the pass.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g125/nick83882002/Mobile%20Uploads/utf-8BSU1HMDAyMjguanBn.jpg
Took out my crossmember and putting all this in the middle of the jeep!
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g125/nick83882002/Mobile%20Uploads/utf-8BSU1HMDAyMjkuanBn.jpg
Like my adjustable upper?
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g125/nick83882002/Mobile%20Uploads/utf-8BSU1HMDAyMzMuanBn.jpg
And my little peace of frame!
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g125/nick83882002/Mobile%20Uploads/utf-8BSU1HMDAyMjYuanBn.jpg

Everything is .250 wall.
The arms are 2inch .250 wall with BIG jonny joints the crossmember is 2inch by 8inch .250wall 39inchs from fame to frame it alone is 48lbs of steel!!
Lowering my center!

And one foot of 3x3 angel for some frame.

O yeah did you see that big chrome thing.
That is for my upper arm, I'm running it from my driver side lower.
I picked it up for cheap so I got it big!
All new energy suspension bushings.

What do you think!

November 26th, 2009, 13:31
So you are running a wristed radius arm setup? I think you need all hard joints for that so those bushings might give you some brake dive.

Looks good Nick.

How does the new cross member attach to the body?

RedJeep2.0
November 26th, 2009, 13:40
I'm doing hard joints on the crossmember. The poly joints are at the end of the lower and one on one side of the upper.

How does the new cross member attach to the body?

I'm useing the stock crossmember holes and welding 3x3 angal to the frame to bolt to.
My buddy did the same to his jeep with 44 and 9inch and he's really hard on it.
And he just plated his frame on the side. Mine is bottem and side! So we will see

No, the very bottem of the link mounts hang as low as a stock cross member.
The plate is 2inch thick and the mounts are 2 1/2thick. The plate is right on the "frame".

They don't hang down that low. Ill take a pic tomorrow with a tape on it.

I can't wait to hit rocks with it. The thinist peace of steel is 1/4inch!!

You will be hitting rocks with it. Its going to stop you in your path when you hit something.

Honestly I don't think Nick is planning on wheeling Johnson valley, Farmington, or competing in XRRA anytime soon. That setup will work just fine for some PNW wheeling. It's stout, the link mounts are ramped, it should perform flawlessly for what it will be used for. The biggest thing is it's is a huge improvement over what was there before (ie: 1rst pic).

Is it drivable yet, Nick?

But just in case: My Claytons kit hangs way down and it's never stopped me; a lot of folks do some pretty gnarly wheeling with drop brackets. Worst case, I can't imagine redjeep's links/mounts can be much worse, though I agree there are probably some ways to improve on them.

No not yet, its all setup just needs to be welded. Then I can drive with my old aftermarket uppers.
Then I need to make a mount for the upper then I'm ready to wheel!
Thanks!

Have you considered extending the frame reinforcement more? Seems like stopping it there with the added stress from the control arms could cause it to weaken/tear. Might be worthwhile to extend it a few inches in front and behind the CM. Just thinking aloud, looks good.

Can you post a picture of where you squeezed the upper in at? How much separation do you have on the frame end?

Also, can you post a picture from farther away from the side to see how much they do hang down.

Nice job on the work.

I have more steel I can make another if I get hung up alot. But this is just to get me by....... And I did it all my self ( but the welding)
I was looking around at some other homemade ones and mine hangs down 2 more inchs then some iv seen, but I have not seen meany BIGGER then mine.

I welded the inside of my stock mounts to the tube, and then put a skid plate on them. If they are bent out of shape, I'd straighten them as best you can first. Save the custom mounts for the front D60.
