View Full Version : 1991 Prelude didn't pass smog

My GF's car failed smog today. However, the results are pretty specific so I think the problem is a bad so-and-so. I know nothing about emission systems so I feel fine poking around and trying to replace what we need to, but I don't know where to start.

Attached are the numbers on the sheet. The Hydrocarbons are what killed it.

ive heard if your close you cant go wrong with a can of berrymens b12 chemtool or seafoam. No experience we dont have polution testing in michigan thank god. One of the knowledgeable california guys will know what to tweak.

How old is your O2 sensor and cat converter ?

i can't see the picture(websense at work blocks most pics???), but excessive hydrocarbons means unburned fuel-incomplete/inefficient combustion. seafoam it and put new ngk plugs in it, and try it again. 99% of the time, even if there's other issues, that'll help enough to squeek through.
