Well I was thinking of people in the city but I consider the south shore/north shore the Boston area...

btw.. I used to work out of Plympton. I was the operations manager for Nessralla Enterprises and then owned my own landscape construction company called Emerscape..

You may have seen me around Halifax about 3 or 4 years back.. I had a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 QC Black and Silver with 35s usually towing a skid steer or excavator

The greater Boston area. Unless you are in there, you can't say you're from Boston.

I used to see your buddy's old Jeep with the fangs all the time, before he got the JK. One of my friends said they knew him and they switched the fangs over to the new one. I too go to Northeastern.

Hey, I'm Chad- from Worcester area... not quite Boston, but it's all good. I've got a 00' XJ Limited with a Rubicon Express 3.5" lift, snorkel, bored throttle body, all kinds of stuff...

I'm selling it as parts car, I have no time to get it running- parked it last month and it didn't start back up. Send me a message if you're interested in more info... I couldn't post in the for sale forum for some reason so I'm posting it locally first!

If y'all have a M&G in Randolph I will show up... I just gotta be stealthy about it since the ex lives just down the road from that dealership and knows my Jeep.

I used to kill time before she was ready to go out by driving down the road and looking at Jeeps :D

I'll be down in halifax/plympton at my buddy's landscape shop working on my jeep on saturday evening if anyone wants to grab a beer.

On second thought, I could use a second set of ears to help pinpoint a whisteling/whining noise that I've been trying to track down. I'll provide the beer.

I may be around. I have my cousin's wedding to go to Friday night, hopefully I can manage to make it so Saturday's not too rough (they are having a 21+ wedding :D, no cousins or anyone under 21 was invited it seems, except my kid brother because he is her godchild, though he isnt coming anyway).

Will be back in the Halifax area on Sat, hopefully by around noon. What time you want help with the Jeep? I was going to try and get the remainder of my floor pans patched in, but that can always be put off  I have all sunday and I should be able to get most if not all of the rest of the work done in short time. I feel like I should call my insurance agent and get plates/insurance lined up for my Jeep today. Maybe I will email her. Then If I get floors done today and early saturday I can drive the Jeep this weekend!! :D:D:D

Not sure when I'll be down saturday.. Probably in the late afternoon. I'm just working on random things like wiring a couple pairs of fog lights, changing the oil and maybe installing a hitch.

Just could use the ear of someone that is a little more experienced than I to help figure out what is going on. So I'd say if you have 30 mins to spare that would be great. I'll shoot you a PM with my number and I can shoot you a text to let you know what my schedule is.

Not sure how experienced that you are... but I could give it a shot. Not saying I will be able to pinpoint you issue, though I have found a few on my rig over the years; I am no expert by any definition of the word  I just figured if no one else (who is more experienced than I am) was around than any extra set of ears couldn't hurt . I can probably do any time on saturday if its later in the afternoon, not really worried about how log it takes. Any ideas what/where the sound is at all?

Emerscape
December 10th, 2009, 09:35
two sounds..one sounds like it's a bad pulley but I'm not sure.. The other sounds like a higher pitched version of when you blow air across the top of a beer bottle..

I've been getting really bad gas mileage in the city lately... like down to 10 mpg. just changed all the spark plugs, o2 sensor, air filter.. everyone keeps telling it might be a vacuum leak but I haven't had the chance to take an unlit propane torch to it.

hackmiester - I live in Beacon Hill so I'm local. I'll shoot you a PM if I need help. Thanks for the offer!

Sam's (Worcester)
Everett's (not sure, somewhere near boston)
Holland's (Billerica)

All of these are pull-a-parts - Holland's runs an all you can carry event once or twice a year, hopefully there will be one in the spring.

Beat me to it.

Everett's used to have a pretty good XJ selection but over the past few years it has been sub par. Then again I haven't been there in quite some time so it may be better now. I will be visiting there within the next wk or 2 so I will update if it is good bad or ugly now. I just have to finish the floors before I can afford the time to go play around in the JY. :D

themangeraad - would you mind taking a look and see if there are any 97+ xjs at Everetts with decent grey carpet interiors when you go? I desperately need a new carpet in mine. I hate not having one.

Not going to be in Halifax on Saturday. Believe it or not I'm just going to take my jeep up to Grava Jeep and have them change the oil and rotate the tires. For $25 it's a lot easier then driving to Plympton. Think I can get away with wiring up a new set of fogs in my parking garage.

Thanks for the offers for help guys. We all should get together for some beers after the holiday.

I've posted a few times about it... but really just the fact that I'm getting a whining noise from the engine under throttle and somewhat rough idle. Everyone seems to think I have a vacuum leak but I just don't have the experience to figure it out. Also don't really have a place to pull the plugs and see if I have a defective plug. I'm tired of getting really sh*tty gas mileage lately.

kastein
January 18th, 2010, 13:03
Have you checked your O2 sensors? Those are a prime candidate for crappy gas mileage, along with spark plugs and a stuck thermostat. I got my friend's MJ to go from 120 miles per tank (about 14 gallon fill-ups) to 260 miles per tank by replacing the thermostat and fuel filter. Parts paid for themselves in about a day's commute...

NAPA and advance auto parts just saved the day, one had an aw4 filter kit on hand and the other had a front seal on hand. I think I'm going to be able to install my new transmission tonight.

EDIT: that last little bit is completely offtopic, I am an idiot and mistook this thread for the lots-o-post thread for some reason :dunce:

Those are easy to fix man...

go on rockauto, get a dorman 624-300, 624-301, a 624-334, and two 800-714s. Tools required: 7/8" socket, 7/8" box wrench, 8mm and 10mm nutdrivers, pocket torch, utility knife or heavy duty scissors, lineman's pliers or large wire cutters. Total cost including draining and filling the transmission is something like $100.

Heck... buy the stuff, gimme a ring at some point, and we can get it done in like 2 hours or so.

EDIT: 624-322 was the wrong number, getting the right one now
