Just sharing some of the things ive been doing lately with my business HandiWorks, LLC.
We've decided to totally revamp our marketing strategy. More higher end projects like hardwoods, tile, remodels... and still keep a "handyman" service available on the side.
Let me know what you think...
A hardwood floor we just finished by Springs Ranch...

haha... josh? i worked a few days, and got paid. It was good to keep some money coming in while work here was slow. I also found out that framing is not something i enjoy.

Jonathan,
Who's the "We" you keep referring to in your picture post? Got a partner? Thought it was just you....... just askin'. :dunno:

Ive also realized lately that i will more than likely be in this industry for quite some time. I really cant see myself doing anything else that I enjoy as much as working with my hands. Because of this, I have decided that In order to stay ahead in this industry, and to stay ahead of all the "jack of all trades" types, that I need to totally change everything I have been doing for the last few years. I have taken a new marketing approach, with a new website, paid ads on google, yahoo, springsguide.com, yellowpages.com. I have also been making an effort to become the clients friend. Like today, I had a job installing 6 mini blinds in a ladys house. We ended up talking for a good few hours, and now I will more than likely be remodeling one of her bathrooms, and installing some hardwood at her sisters house.
I have also made referral/comment sheets that I ask the client to fill out after the project is complete. On them, i have questions regarding their satisfaction, if they would refer me to their friends and neighbors, a section that asks if I can use them as a referral for other clients, and I ask them to write out a testimonial I can post on my website. This shows them that I truly care about their opinion, and that If they refer me to a friend or family, that they will more than likely get the same satisfaction and quality of work. This is something most would only expect from a larger, more established business, not a small business.
Ive also started to invest in things that matter, like Tools. I have decided that flashy business cards, fliers, and flashy decals on my truck can wait, and decided to design my own business cards and print them out myself. I figured after speaking to alot of my clients that a flashy business card doesnt mean a thing. I also like how my cards scream "small business". Tools are what keep my business rolling. And its true, your only as valuable as your tools.
Ive also decided to go ahead and get my Class E Contractors license here in El Paso County. Eventhough alot of the jobs I do, do not need a license or a permit pulled, It gives the homeowner relief knowing that they are protected, and Im not just some guy that got laid off from his graphic arts job that has tools and a truck.
So, if any of you have any other suggestions then I would be more than happy to hear them. With my new baby boy finally here, its time to buckle down and make things happen, instead of just sitting around and waiting for the phone to ring.
Also, the new website seems to be coming together well. www.handiworksllc.webs.com.

I use this guy Justin from time to time. I would consider him my business partner. He's a professional painter by trade, but he's caught on quick to flooring, hardwoods, tile, and remodeling. I just dont have enough to keep him busy 40 hours a week as of yet. I also use "we", instead of I, so people get the impression that im not just some "chuck in a truck", and that I have established myself enough to at least have an employee. Then, when I meet the client, i make them feel like they are my only client, and that we truly are a smaller business, with the customers best interest in mind...

Use the "Contact" button to inquire about your parts or accessory needs. We work with several vendors so if you don't see the product brand you're looking for, contact us and we'll see if we can get it!"

one last thing....
i found this info on a recent "junk" email i got regarding internet sales... i took the time to actually read it and I have found that it actually has some good info in it... I am thinking of starting to structure my ads based on this sales model...
In order to tell you about products or services:
* I get your attention...
* I build rapport with you...
* I explain what's in it for you...
* I tempt you by appealing to your emotions...
* I create a verbal picture that teases your desires...
* I demonstrate how my stuff can easily solve your problems...
* I can prove to you that there're a lot people just
like you who have bought and are very happy with my stuff...
* I make you an absolutely irresistible offer...
* I describe a deal where you risk nothing, and yet stand
to gain a great deal...
* I handle every single one of your objections...

Do you do any work in N. Colorado? I'd like to get a portion of our basement finished.
It would be quite a drive, but I'd rather have a fellow Jeeper help me out. :)
