Back on topic-Looks like ya'll had fun, thats some good looking trials. I went out yesterday and wheeled local. My group of 4 (1 XJ, 2 JK's and a TJ) were stuck behind a group of 25 Jeeps most of the day(12 mile long rock garden). Some times small groups are better.

Yeah, last year a guy on 35s open open stock gears grenaded literally everything in his jeep trying to complete trail 39. We were on it until 3 in the morning trying to get off. Literally every Jeep had a mechanical failure of some type. Jarrad almost got away with no damage, but his alternator failed while trying to winch the Jeep I just spoke about off the trail.

i know it seems pricey but the amount of land here, the variance of trails, and the maintainence level and mapping level (plus insurance liabilities for "company" land) its really not that bad, i dont mind paying to support the keeping up of an ohv area thats growing when most face shutdown scrutiny

the local parks here have the same issue they just flat out tell us not to ride in the creeks.
Good pics.... And looks like an awesome place to ride... Just pricy for the entrance fee plus gas$ to get there....i'd rather ride all the local parks within 2 hours of me for 10bucks.

That was me. I think last year was so bad because the weather. I have ran 39 open/open on 31's with no problems when it was dry....the trail has gotten alot worse since then and is almost impossible open if it is wet.

November 18th, 2009, 04:39
Yeah, they made a bypass at the end now, kinda sucks... But the V-notch area isn't doable for a rig that isn't locked in both axles unless they winch. Heck, our entire group was locked with 35"+ swampers and we all had to give it multiple attempts before making that section.

and to Tim aka hardstruggler, i heard you didnt get your tow rope back. i remember taking it off the big tree at the end of rattlerock and putting your drings back on, before i could toss the rope back in the jeep you were ready to make the last stretch, so i rolled it up and apparently placed it on a rock we were all standing around so i could help spot, and i have photographic evidence of exactly where it was put but nothing on it actually getting in your jeep... im guessing it got left on the rock in all the dirt throwing, hugging celebration that followed the end of the trail... not sure on that. unless someone else picked it up.

Why? Same joint. You tack your caps on alloy shafts and I bet your joint issues will go away in the front.

November 20th, 2009, 06:12
True about the same joint but I have broken shafts up front also not just the joints. Hopefully with a stronger shaft I can upgrade the joints and really not have any more trouble.

I'm gonna stay on 35's for now. The axle has been narrowed to stock Waggy width. I didn't want to go full width.
so you have a d30 up front? didnt know that.
Yep, good ole D30. I have beat on it pretty hard, you can ask, and I have broke it too. Never had an issue with a R&P like some have, cough Tyler, cough.

Well, with the 44 you will have locking hubs, so you will be able to run some type of super-joint with some alloy shafts and the breakage will decrease. With the 30, you are limited on the type of joint because they have to remain street friendly. SO, while the joints are still classified as a 760 type, a super joint wont break like a spicer. Mark, I would recommend Bobby Longs...
High2by
November 21st, 2009, 14:01
That's what I was thinking Tyler. The locking hubs would be the only way I could run a joint like a BLong.

I ran the yukon joint and hated them. Very jerky and comes with a crappy grease gun and special grease.

Ghost, must you hate everything that it actually worth having? 8.8s, chevy engines, dana 44s, super u-joints, etc, etc, etc, are all on you dislike lists... Yet you like 2.5L Jeep engines??? I don't get it.
Lol, just had to poke some fun.
I myself am running stock parts as in axles and u-joints, no high dollar stuff yet, but it seems to be doing pretty good. I did have to fully weld the u-joint caps in on the pass side front axle though because the ears were egg shaping! The long side has been fine, I guess since the shaft has more twist it takes some of the abuse off of the joint.

I was speaking from experience. Except on the chevy engines, chevy makes nothing I like. I have been there and done that on the D44 and the yukon's. I did not like the poping of the yukons and the grease gun is shit. Ask anyone that has bought them. you have to press the grease up with a screwdriver while you pump it into the joint. They took the springloaded press out to save on cost. Yea all in good fun! I know you are poking at me no worries. I have a problem with keeping my opnions to my self. LOL! Oh yea I like the Ford 5.0, the frond hp D60, the 9" is good but the low pinion sucks, I love the t-18 too by the way. :moon: :D
