What years did Jeep run the plastic gas tanks on the XJ?

I believe 97+

correct, 96s and older, or the ones that i have seen, all had steel tanks with a plastic cover over them if they did not have skid plate.

All of the 97+ i have ever seen had a plastic tank.

The plastic is pretty good, water does not condensate in them like metal tanks in the cooler weather like we are starting to have.
