NV246 Transfer Case

By friends 01 silverado is making a clunk or ratcheting noise when shifting from forward to reverse. From looking at it, it is coming from the transfer case. Anyone have any experience with these.

prolly a stretched chain. i've rebuilt and replaced quite a few of those t-cases at the stealership.
does it have the 'auto 4wd'?

Yeah it has the auto 4wd button. Also it's a 5.3L with 100k miles on it. I was hoping it was just bearings and I could rebuild it with a kit from randy's R&P.

So you recommend a new chain, anything else?

not really. just make sure it is a chain and not a bad diff or something. does your freind leave it in auto pretty often? thats the biggest rwason the chains stretch.
