View Full Version : Earn some gas money? Driving back east?

I got a great deal on a rack for my XJ, but it's in Santa Barbara, and I'm in NM. So, if anyone's driving east and would be up for helping me get the rack this direction, I can pay for some of your gas. And if you're only going part way, maybe I can meet you somewhere.

Any takers?

Depending on the size of the rack and your flexibility I may be able to help. I'll be driving I-40 East in late December.

I'll be leaving Friday after Thanksgiving for NM. If it can make it to me before then, i can take it. I am leaving at 2am Friday, So I need it by Thanksgiving day at the latest.

John, I might be able to get this to you (are you on the way to SD from Santa Barbara?). I am heading down there this Monday. OP, where is the rack and will it fit inside of my XJ (I have a rack on top of mine already).

Great idea, GauchoMD. If you and JohnX could tag team it, that would be awesome. It's a top hat roof rack, so it's pretty big. We were thinking about just flipping it upside down and strapping it on, but if it needs to get disassembled, maybe I can get the guy I'm buying it from to break it down into smaller pieces. And it's coming from 93103 in Santa Barbara.

Not really. It would be about 40 miles total out of your way to bring it to me. I am in Upland on Monday (work) from 8-5pm. You could probably drop it somewhere in the LA area and we could work on getting it from there.

im in covina (near the 10 and 57, i work off the 60 at azusa) if the rack makes it here or by my work i can hold it or drop it in upland!

Hey Guys, thanks for all of the help. All of you are awesome and have my gratitude.

The seller said he can hold it until it gets closer to Thanksgiving. It sounds like Johnnie Walker getting it to JohnX, who drives it out to Albuquerque is going to be the method that is the simplest.

Johnnie Walker, I can pm you the seller's address. He said he can meet you at his house, or take it off and leave it up the driveway for you to pick it up.

JohnX, I can pm you directions to my place in Albuquerque, and if it's over turkey weekend, I should be around to help get it from you. And can you send Johnnie Walker directions to your place so you guys can exchange?

How's that sound for a plan?

Pasadena isn't really close to Upland either. Is there anyone that is on my way to San Diego (from Santa Barbara) that I can drop it off with that could get it to JohnX in Upland (or Desert Runner in Covina)?? I will be taking the 101 South and 5 South to SD and will be leaving Monday late morning. Let me know, otherwise JohnnyWalker can take it to Pasadena and you guys can figure out how to get it to JohnX by Thanksgiving.

Yep. I know I can't make it to pasadena, covina might be better, but still a stretch for me.

Are you willing to drive it ALL the way to Upland from where you're headed in Pasadena? It's quite a drive and you're already coming from north of Santa Barbara. I have to be in SD at a certain time, otherwise I'd try to take it to JohnX, but it would be a huge detour for me. That's why I'm asking to see if anyone is on my route that could get it to JohnX before he leaves for NM. :cheers:

Thanks for the patience. We've been battling the flu. I think JohnnieWalker taking it to JohnX is the easiest way to go, if you guys are up for that. I sent PMs with directions.
