Dude, c'mon... why are you selling the jeep? You know its a decision you will regret...

The Box
November 10th, 2009, 20:45
I got a plan.... I think.
Plus I want something that doesn't have so much money in it so I can get more rough with it and not feel bad when something F's up, preferably open top.

such a nice jeep...

you better not end up with a yota or something!

(jarrad - you need to call that guy who wanted to buy your XJ, i'm sure he'd be interested in Dan's XJ)

The Box
November 12th, 2009, 12:35
Blake- Thanks bud, I checked it out but don't want to drop $25 for just a couple week ad right now. I don't know how well the autotrader demographic would accept my cherokee either.

Lil Timmy- Thanks, I will keep that in mind.

Dan- no yotas for me, I wouldn't mind a cj7 or something like that though. And yea if you know anybody that might have interest, let them know I would def appreciate it.

did you ever sell this beast?

The Box
December 11th, 2009, 11:00
No, I have a trade in the works. I'll update you next week if it works out. I don't wanna jinx it quite yet.

Team Willys
December 13th, 2009, 16:30
It best be a 4 letter word and have a 7 slot grille... or 9 if it's a military version and has flip around headlights!

The Box
December 18th, 2009, 17:52
Well, the trade went through and even thought I said I wouldn't drive anything but a Jeep I ended up with my first Toyota.

Its a 1973 FJ40 with TPI 5.7, D60 front 35spl arb, 9" rear detroit, th350 auto, STAK 3speed tcase, full cage, warn 8274 and 38's

Carl (flameredtj) and I took a road trip out to Nevada to do the swap, got to see a lot of the country. We're actually driving back through Utah right now. Earlier we took the Dodge 2500 out on the salt flats and did some doughnuts and made some passes.

We left weds at 6am and drove nonstop to Battle Mountain NV in 37ish hours. Probably not the smartest deal logistically but I like the rig and always wanted to take a trip cross-country. Really makes you realize how big the country really is.

Anyways, I'll make a pic thread when I get back home.

hawt! cant wait to see it dan! now you can really play on some big rocks... so when we goin wheelin...

..... and i dont care what anyone says, im not brand loyal at all, if its got four wheels and i can figure out a way to make it go i'll rock it ;)

edit: youve got a phone, walk outside and take a picture to post for us!

The Box

Thanks Doug, funny thing is I'm a Jeep only dude but this thing is about as close as it gets to a Jeep without being one. Plus there aren't really any Toyota parts on it besides the frame and body.

We're still driving right now so I'm actually posting from my phone. I'm not sure I can do pics from it since I would need photobucket. I'll give it a shot though.

i wondered what that funny looking thing in the back was, so you have to finish it?

The Box
December 18th, 2009, 22:32
Hahaha thanks guys.

when I originally went to sell it I was going to use part of the money for an engagement and with the rest I was gonna pick up an old cj and beat it. Well I figured out the ring situation and always missed the open top from my old YJ. Plus I was jealous of all the fun you guys were having with the skinny pedal. I plan in keeping with my light foot style in the rocks but now I can stick my foot in it and not worry about it. Only catch with it is that he had an LS1 in it before and wanted $3K on the deal for it. He pulled that and traded straight up for the TPI, its got a spun rod bearing which needs to be fixed along with a couple loose ends. Got all the parts just needs the time. The motor is actually in the bed which is probably why its squating in the rear and sittin tall in the front. I can't wait to get it running though.

sweet, that sucker would be NASTY with an ls1, the tpi should be enough for you... if not theres a guy in knoxville with complete LM7 motors (gen3 5.3's) with all the goodies on the shelf for around 700

The Box
December 18th, 2009, 22:55
Go to youtube and search "aggro sluice" and you can see it with the LS1 and different body tub.

The guy was finishg up a rebuild on it when he went to sell it which is why it still has some odds and ends to finish. It sounded real good with that vette motor, woulda been nice if he would left it in there.

Its all good though, the fj40 is an awesome rig... I would wheel one :)

...the video was pretty cool too! Now if we could only get Dan to drive like that! :)

The Box
December 20th, 2009, 08:31
Doug, I'm probably gonna have to take you up on that bud.

Dan, I don't think I'll be as apprehensive about using the skinny on this one. Its a little more heavy duty then The Box was. Probably won't jump it or anything, but def won't be afraid of a good bump every once in a while. :)

Haha, why a 5.3 truck engine??? My vote goes to this:

http://i508.photobucket.com/albums/s321/72mustang-man/LSX454.jpg

454 cubic inch LSX block. 620 HP and 590 Lb/Ft TQ. Of course you would have to ditch the carb in favor of fuel injection, but thats no big deal!

Why even deal with spark plugs and distributors when you can have something that will last forever.

http://img.alibaba.com/photo/11641531/Cummins_6bt_Diesel_Engine.jpg
:scared:

and make some insane power.

Team Willys
December 24th, 2009, 13:27
OOOOOO 6BT CUMMINS FTW!

Eh, the LSX I posted is the lightest of them all (of the posted engines anyway) and makes the most power in pictured form. Yes the cummins can make more with a pretty substantial amount of work, but it still weighs an awful lot...

FlameRedTJ
December 24th, 2009, 14:18
Well yea its over 1k lbs. I'd like to do a 4BT in my TJ but its still about 700ish, and just not sure I wanna listen to the rattle on the trail. Its either that or 5.7 Hemi.

Not sure what the 12V is rated at but my common rail 24V specs 610 ftlbs.

Team Willys
December 25th, 2009, 10:19
A 12V like pictured is only about 500 lb/ft... in stock form.
