View Full Version : Some people just have the worst luck... i.e., me.

I woke up this morning and walked into the living room, there was a note waiting for me on the couch.
"Please don't be mad at me. It was foggy this morning and I backed into your car."....
"Damn," I thought to myself. I just bought that Cherokee. Wait she said 'car'. Surely she didn't!" The letter continues...
...."It didn't hurt it too bad...but there is some damage. I am SOO SORRY."
"Please don't let it be the Chevelle...Please don't let it be the Chevelle."
So, I walk outside and sure enough, the cover on my 66 Chevelle was ripped and torn. I kept thinking it was going to be a tiny dent because of the nature of her letter, but as I peeled back the cover, I found otherwise. I will be needing a new hood, fender, 2 pieces of chrome trim, headlight bezel, bumper brackets and maybe a bumper. What sucks is that I just got done putting a new motor and transmission in it, along with everything else from the air filter to the driveshaft, and I was maybe 4 hours from finishing. Also, her deductible (we have no choice but to file a claim, as her car is worse than mine.) is $400, and she is fresh out of college which means that I'll be paying for that as well.

Never park a valuable/rare/collectible car where people have to drive backwards.
edit- btw, that really sucks.

You said "she" but you didn't mention how she is related. Daughter, girlfriend or wife?
If it's your daughter that really sucks. If it's a girlfriend or wife....well you know there are tons of other women out there that can drive in the fog right? :D

Sorry to hear that man, That XJ WAS clean. Really, all it needs is a header panel and radiator by the looks of it.

Damn, that does suck. I feel for the Chevelle.
If I had a nice car, I would NOT park it anywhere near where my fiancee has to back-up or park. Especially not when there is snow out. I really feel bad for the trees near the driveway.

it seems clear to me...
file police report on both incidents..
find new girlfriend/wife.
collect insurance on both
fix jeep and Chevelle
Enjoy deer meat.

Haha, that's exactly what I was thinking. As a matter of fact, I was just thinking earlier, "Damn, I wish it would have hurt the bumper more, that way I could replace it with the JCR I've been looking at. And yes, I have insurance, but it's a $500 deductible.

I can assure you, the deer made a speedy exit. I was doing around 45 when I hit it. Jeep held up quite well actually...the header panel and radiator seemed to absorb all the blow.

My ARB ripped up a Mercury Sable bumper last week. I think it could handle a deer pretty well! :D

Damn, that really blows, all at once. Looks to me like the hood wasn't touched though? I hope not. Header panel - you can get that at the junkyard these days nice and clean, even prepainted with factory paint in your color sometimes, for like 50 bucks...
I have no idea where to get parts for the Chevelle though.
Hope you sort things out with the woman, either way, whatever makes you happier.

I'm sure she feels pretty crappy about what happened to the Chevelle. Hopefully she'll give ya several "steak and a bj" coupons to make up for it.........

No just the bulbousness of an ARB bumper.
My friend Mark (Begster) has one that he is in the middle of cutting it up to battle the huge decrease in approach angle. We have a video of him at a local trail consistantly hitting and sliding/grinding his bumper up to a rock in order to begin climbing it.

Yeah, It does decrease it quite a bit. Once I get some lift under it the bumper will be sufficient for what I do. If not I'll get a JCR and sell the ARB! :D

I'd either ditch the ARB or cut it up. Even when you lift the rig you'll still want the extra clearance for placing tires onto rocks.

I love the Look of it so I'll run it for a while. I don't really run Hard trails. I rubbed the tow points pretty bad at Badlands climbing a rock ledge but I attribute that to no lift and 235's.

Oh yeah, "she" is my fiance. She's been avoiding me since the incident.
4 months after we got married my wife totaled my MX-6 because she was messing with the heater knobs.
It took a while to get used to the idea of her getting in another one of my cars.
but life goes on, and here we are a couple years later and she is one of the better drivers I know now. (but don't tell her I said that, I am still trying to keep her from getting too confident and using the cell phone while driving like 90% of other women do)
Holy tangent batman.
like was said, they are just cars. Good luck with the fixes.

Exactly! As much as I love my Jeep, In the end its just a Vehicle. Human life is more important than my 12 year old rig.
