Bad whining noise and smoke in my 96 grand cherokee limited V8

Ok i got a real bad whining noise it is worse when it is cold and it does it in all gears but reverse is the loudest.Now for the smoke it doesn't seem to smoke on start up but if you let it idle for a min or so it puffs blue smoke pretty bad longer it sits at idle the worse the cloud of smoke.Could anyone please help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds a bit like your are burning oil. Pull the plugs and check their condition, making sure to keep them in order so you will know which cylinder is which. Valve stem seals, valves stem guides, plugged PCV/CCV system are good places to look. A cylinder leak down test would give you more specifics.

If it is an automatic, have you checked the fluid level?

I'll do what you said about plugs and see what happens.And it is an automatic trans and is full of fluid.Thanks for quick reply.I will post with results as soon as i get time to do the work.

not sure about the whining noise ,but it also sounds like the lower intake gasket may be blown
