Here's the poop. My son (14) and I going to install a set of 4.10 gears in a Chrysler 8.25" axle this Sunday (10/29). The axle is going to end up under my son's XJ in the near future.
Now I'm not a professional gear head, but I have done this swap a few times and thought that it would have been nice to see someone else do a gear swap before I did my first one, so...
I've got room for a few folks in the "Oh Crap Garage" if anyone wants to watch me rip meat off my knuckles and perhaps gain a little confidence to do their own gears. I'd like to keep the size manageable, so I'm thinking 4-6 people. Please don't respond if you know you won't be able to make it.
We're planning on getting started at 9 A.M.

Yes you would. Although the 8.25" axle uses adjusters for the carrier instead of shims, the end result is the same.

Yep, so far you're only the second person to express an interest. No need to bring anything at all. I'll PM my address.

It was great meeting all of you and a BIG THANK YOU to Frank for all the knowledge and time and pizza! I feel much better about taking my axels apart now...Although I do think I will buy a second Cherokee so I have an extra car for when I break mine.
thank you again

You're very welcome Chris. Thanks for making the long haul from Denver.
The first axle gave us some problems, luckily I had another 8.25 in the garage. The second axle went alot smoother. Daniel and I completed the gear sway in no time at all without any further problems...thankfully!! I'll post up a few pictures of his final pattern after we get cleaned up.
I'm going to have to spend some time looking closely at the bearings and bearing adjusters for axle #1.
