ANYONE good with safes?

SO i picked up a used surplus diebold/sargent greenleaf r6700 safe from a bank job i did recently, it came with a combo, and the key, but im having some trouble getting it to open... ive been succesful once, but thats it..

the combo came in a weird format,

such as
4L 40
3R 25
2L 60
it has a traditional (out and outdated) dial, and key.
ive found online that im supposed to do that combo (that manual mentioned nothing about going past anything, any amounts of times)
then go back right to 0, pausing, then going all the way right till it stops spinning. ive gotten here before as well, but cannot repeat it.

can anyone shed any light on this? maybe someone who's worked for, or knows someone who's worked for smarshington smutual?

Found a snippet online, looks like your method is close. This is alot like some of our data safes at work, can be kinda funky.

The correct dialing sequence for an S&G R6700 series lock is:

4 times left to the first number,
3 times right to the second number,
2 times left to the third number,
and 1 time right, slowly to stop.

Note: Do not count revolutions, count the individual number as it arrives at the index mark (12 o'clock). For instance if your first number is 7 you would stop the fourth time that the number 7 reaches the index mark.
Left is Counter clockwise and Right is Clockwise. If the combination is correct, and assuming that you have dialed it correctly, the dial will come to a full and complete stop around 90.

That is how the combination works on my RedHead gun safe too.

We used Greenleaf combo locks when I was in the Marine Corps. They were a big pain in the keester. But yes, Toxin is correct on the procedure.

What's teh combination and what kind of toys are in the safe?

at this point, nothings in the safe! i only got it to open once(which actually closed the door, i received it with the door open)

it also has a hole you could pull a small child thru on the top(cash drop, it was a teller safe), gonna weld it shut, and bolt it down (somewhere!)

thanks to everyone who posted, when people describe how to open a safe, they tend to gloss over the details. thanks especially to toxin, those kinda things i was kinda afraid to ask... my only prior combo lock experience was junior high locker combo's, thats it!

just got it open a 2nd time, your the man toxin!
seems the trick is going 1 extra rotation, ie not counting the first each way
