im working on a patent fo a tie down device for small and large trucks Are you absolutely sure your design isn't similar to one of the other hundred thousand designs?

:D

Don't forget, its not going to be easy to patent "rope"...

Tell that to Microsoft. Looking at their list of recent patents they are probably going to work up to that at some point.

I work on new ideas and invent things everyday, its in my job description. Being a research engineer for a medical device company, thats pretty much my everyday thing. Come up with new ideas, build prototypes, test, patent and then give it too our Development department for further development, FDA stuff and then to manufacturing. Actually today, we filed a patent on an IVC filter design, that I came up with, there is another inventor on the patent, but he only had a very small imput on the design. So yeah I have a few patents that have been applied for, just playing the waiting game now for them to issue. Not bad for only being in the industry for a 1.5 full time.

a friends uncle invented the Jake Break for semi's and a friends colleague invented the socket release system that craftsman "borrowed" after they turned down his design.

I hate that socket release system. I always spend about 3 or 4 seconds trying to pull the socket off before I remember to push the button. I don't apreciate being reminded constantly by a ratchet handle how stupid I am. I know how stupid I am, but I don't need a friggin' ratchet handle reminding me about it.

I invented that phrase that everybody says when they see a new invention - you know it: "Shoot! I thought of that 3 years ago. I should have filed for a patent." That's my line. As soon as I figure out how to track y'all down I'm gonna start sending out collection notices. I want my royalties.

Chelsey <sp> Cummins? Same man that presented the idea of the Jake Brake to the Cummins Board and Cummins didn't want it, so since he was not part of the board of directors anymore he took it to the Jake Corp and they wanted it, and they first presented it to Detroit Diesel and they jumped at it and put it on their engines, and then later Jake Marketed it to every diesel manufacturer including Cummins.

So, was it Chelsey <sp> Cummins who is your friends uncle, cause I believe Chelsey is dead?

EDIT - I thought the name was wrong...Clessie Cummins was the man. 1931 when he presented the idea to Jacob Corp.

Slightly on/off topic, was in a gas station tonight. They were selling flashlights. SOLAR POWERED FLASHLIGHTS! The package claims they'll work off of natural or artificial light. Unless you can buy 2 of 'em and have perpetual light, WTF is the point? :wierd:

i love that joke, that and the "pedal powered wheelchair"

but solar cells STORE light, so you can charge it in the day and use it at night.

Jumping to conclusion arent we?

XJ-Vikings hasnt confirmed or denied this guy was his friends uncle.

jeepinxj01 could be FOS...but it sure sounds like he has his facts straight.

And to keep on topic....i have an uncle who "supposedly" invented Coffee Mate for H.J.Heinz....and they sold it to Carnation.

neither of these are "inventions" per se.

but my physics teacher was on the team that designed the propulsion systems for the Blue Angels (those yellow and blue syncronized flying planes)

and my Uncle was on the team that designed the prototypes used in the military now for the smart missile chips. Sadly i cant confirm this, b/c he moved out to cali and we've never heard from him since...

I lived in Edinburgh IN, and pretty much grew up in Columbus IN (Cummins HQ) and my father was a Cummin's employee, so it was "required reading." It's possible Clessie could be the great uncle of his friend. I wasn't calling Viking out, just curious if that's who he was referring too, cause if it's not Clessie, his friend is FOS. :) Very interesting story of Cummins and Jacob Corp either way.

My father invented a 6" wide 4" tall ~ish soccer goal that will fit in the trunk of any car. It's great for the guys who love playing soccer on the weekends at any place that has grass. Sturdy design, and the perfect size for a small field.
