View Full Version : 4.0 Cooling system upgrade

Hi Guys
We went to the Mormon Emigrant Trail today to play. On the way up "Jane" started to get hot. My question is, Do I stay with the closed system or go to the open system. If I go closed I'll put in a 3 row GDI radiator and duel electric fans. Or is the open system a better way to go?

Open system is the way to go and go with GDI. You'll need some other components, but it's very easy to do. 8)

I moved the shock mount up to pick up some clearance and not rip off the shock mount. I did'nt have the bottom cut off before I took the picture.

Well the cooling system upgrade is under way. I picked up a fan, from a 96.
I also picked up the thermo. housing and heater control valve.
The 3 row GDI radiator will be on it's way on monday. 8)

Curved blades instead of the flat blades of the earlier models. Moves MUCH more air.

I cooled off about 10 degrees just with the fan alone!

The good fans come out in the 94 cherokees. I believe they will fit up until 97.

I picked up one of these fans from ebay for $26. To go with my GDI 3 row swap for my 90.

Hi Guys
I'm converting to the open system on saturday. what radiator cap should I run? I'm thinking 13 or 16LB.
