I know that if you do something like a Stak or Atlas Transfer case you can shift it in front wheel drive rear wheel drive and 4WD. You can lock up the rear brakes and do "front digs".
I read on Pirate4x4 that some guys plumb there brakes separate front and rear so they can brake either axle separate, but I am not for sure on how they do it.
i remember seeing a thread on here about something like this. i think it focused more on trying to link up two separate e-brake levers, one for each rear wheel. but the thread may have talked about what you mentioned

Cutting brakes? There are also brake systems that have two seperate brake pedals and two master cylinders. They can be operated seperatly or bolted together.

Yes cutting brakes are one way or type and the line locks, and staging brakes. I guess what I was getting at is there are tons or thread on this type of stuff on Pirate cause there are a ton of buggies and comp rigs and that's normally what you would run these types of brakes systems on.
EDIT: Also IMO if you dont have a T case that is able to shift from FWD to RWD to 4WD these brake systems are pretty much worthless.
agreed. If you don't have a case that you can unlock and lock the front and rear sepreatly then you wouldn't gain anything. The E brake cables would be tight and the wheels would still trying to turn. That would equal boom in the brake system at some point.
