So true to my impatient self I was taking the black bumper trim off my front bumper today and heard a puff sound when one of the bolts came loose. A tube leading to a black ball looking thing in the front of the bumper was broken. I have a sneaking suspicion that this is the airbag sensor but I am not sure. Any ideas?
Sorry for the crappy phone pic

The pill bottle is your spare vacuum canister.
It is necessary, but can be put elsewhere when doing modifications.
The "puff" sound you heard could indicate a loose or broken vacuum line.

No but if you want I can come down and take you to the junk yard and get a replacement for whatever is broken. I have to go there this week anyway. Should run you less than 10 bucks.

the primary effect will be that your heat/AC will blow only to the defrost, since the HVAC contols are vaccuum operated. Relocate the ball to the passenger side by the firewall, under the hood. You should be able to trace the vaccuum lines back there, cut to size and hook it all back up.

Guys thanks for all your help. I got it fixes with an adapter to connect the two broken hoses. Easier than I thought it would be. Any tips on getting the side pieces off the bumpers, I want to get them painted soon. They just look like cr*p right now and my lift and tires are going to be taking up most on the money that I have to put in the jeep

Air bag sensor......... Heh heh, that was a good one! Sorry to pick on ya, but that really was pretty funny..... :roflmao:
Anyway, as far as tips to getting the bumper end caps off...... Just a couple of 10mm nuts and bolts holding them on there...... They usually rust and snap off.
You'll need tiny hands if you don't remove the bumpers.

when i took off my front today, this was sitting in the bumper free floating.
one of the lines was broke, looked broke for a while.
What else does this control, besides the heating? relocated already behind the battery (temp relo, with tiewraps) and hooked up hoses to what looked like the right places, but no telling for sure.

It is your vacuum reservoir, keep it.

It runs cruise controal, HVAC, and probably a few other things that shouldn't need it but do. If your HVAC is working (switching between vents), you probably have it hooked up right.

took the jeep out for the first time after bumper went on, check brakes after bleed. did not deal with the vacuum canister prior to this.
i had it hooked up wrong and the rig died when i slowed down.
took it home and played around with the canister: the canister with 4 plugs, if it is hooked up wrong and the vacuum gets sealed, the engine rpm's drop to around 250.
just an FYI
all fixed now
