Alright, as usual my mind is on food and I thought I would throw this out there. As with each year there is a pot luck meal on Friday evening and everyone has their specialty. I know that we will have the Turkey Brigade there with their deep fried goodness and I have spoke with the cheese and it is planning on attending this year as well and possibly in addition to a Bacon Explosion or two. With this being said (and nearly 5 months to plan :D) what are some specialty dishes that you all might have to bring along and share??? (And no Sean, we are not talking about anything that is "hand made" or "special sauces" :D)

Well, I'm gonna try and bring some venison chili. I gotta make it once or twice before then to try achieve perfection with my recipe. Lucky for me, I have a freezer full of venison.

XJ&CHZ4ME

I have a mean venison chili receipe if ya need some guidance. Have not made any for a while b/c wifey does not like it and it is not worth the hassle to shoot a deer just for the meat that I will eat.

XJosh95

No offense to your culinary genius, I'd like to work this one out on my own. It's gotta be my chili recipe. I started it about a year ago with a generic recipe for the base and it's been excellent each time. It's just not quite there yet.

XJ&CHZ4ME
December 9th, 2009, 13:34
None taken what so ever. A guys chili receipe is kind of like an extension of their personality...so I am a bit excited to see what you come up with..or scared for that matter!! :D

Closer to Winterfest, I will do my usual summary list, please let us know if you have changed your mind at that time. Somebody needs to bring foil type pans with lids to put cooked food in. I do NOT want my hamburger contaminated this year (Ha Ha).

Flavors = lots, most any of the standards (apple, strawberry, pecan, etc.) and then there are sometimes some tasty specialty ones.
How much = can't remember but I'll take a look when I get a chance to get over there and I'll let you know.

I'll make sure to get some Kringle out there for WF. I have the time off but am currently broke and the Jeep is not running (dead battery and hopefully that's it, I think it's bad when the battery has ice chunks in it, yeah?). I'm going to have to dig into savings some I think, but I fully intend on making it. Besides, I have to bring Susie's requested cherry Kringle. I can't leave a damsel in distress.

What kind of cooking apparatuses are going to be available for the Firday night cookout? I will have the nacho machine, but was going to bring a couple of "special edition" BACON Explosions and need a way to either slow cook them for a while or to smoke them...I could premake them and just reheat them in a BBQ grill as well...just checking to see what options are out there. I am also willing to donate 10# of farm raised ground beef. We just butchered a feeder steer and have tons of hamburger (actually about 300# or more). If this is wanted or needed, please let me know. Trust me, there is a tremendous difference between store bought burger and fresh ground corn fed midwest burger! :chef:

Dutch oven on a fire? how long do your "explosions" need to cook?

XJ&CHZ4ME
February 8th, 2010, 12:03
If they are a fresh batch and are still raw at time of cookin, they need to go to an internal temp of 160 degrees. If they are precooked, they would just need heated through.

There's juice at the campground. We've usually got crockpots and a cheeze dispenser plugged in. Shouldn't be a problem.
