Got 2 more possible trades...
Jeep 1... 169 K. 99'. 4.0 L ... plus hes giving me 1800 in cash... :looney: its all black, with black interior. Black tinted windows, in REALLY good shape. I saw this one last week. Bone stock.

http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/2079/xj2.jpg (http://img194.imageshack.us/i/xj2.jpg/) http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/xj2.jpg/1/w300.png (http://g.imageshack.us/img194/xj2.jpg/1/)
Trade 2.. havent seen this one yet...
1999 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 - 146,xxx 4" lift Black rims, 31" mickey thompson tires less than 1000 miles, pioneer stereo w/ MP3 cord, vehicle is very dependable and very clean, I am a mechanic and have had the vehicle since 105,xxx, and have done oil changes every 2500 miles. trade for TJ? says he will add cash... but i havent talked to him about a number yet...
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/9867/xj3h.jpg (http://img3.imageshack.us/i/xj3h.jpg/) http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/xj3h.jpg/1/w300.png (http://g.imageshack.us/img3/xj3h.jpg/1/)
so..... my options are, get jeep 1, plus 1800 in cash and build it how i want. Im looking into the RC 6.5" lift. and 33's... id have plenty to do that with 1800 dollars.
or, jeep 2. Its already got 4 inches on it, and 31's which im sure i could convince him to keep his 31's and i keep my 32's and trade without with some extra cash on the side. I could always build on this 4" lift as well. they are 4" springs if i understand correctly.
So...... what do you think my best option is?

If the cash thrown in with the green XJ deal is decent, then the green one is a no-brainer. Hell, a straight trade with you keeping the 32's is a good deal.......

im so tornnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn..... i just want to make sure im making the right decision here...
and YES... ill admit it. Ill miss the living Sh#t out of the TJ... Its fun as hell, there is always something to do with it, there are endless options as far as mods go, and its a stress reliever after a long day of a baby crying, and swinging a hammer. She WILL be missed, and I will probably never find another TJ, in that good of shape... ever again.
so, looks like this thread that started it all with my old XJ... http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=990832 , then trading my old XJ with a blown head gasket for this TJ... now, I have the opportunity to get something WAY better than my old XJ ever was. And the funny thing is, i only put about 1K into the TJ...
Im still torn though.

If your so torn about it just keep the damn thing. :D
All kidding aside. You will be able to find another TJ some time. I know a kid who got one for 8K with 30 K miles on it. It was in FANTASTIC shape.

the way i look at it is..... and this may sound really really gay.....
but i cried a little tonight.
I will be COMPLETELY HONEST with you guys now... and tell you the real reason why im clinging so tightly to this damn TJ...
Here we go, and do NOT judge me. i was YOUNG!
So, i was 18, young, dumb and stupid. I had a 95 cherokee sport as my first car and i LOVED it. It ended up going to shit really quick for no apparent reason. I tried trading it in numerous times to dealerships to get a loan for a newer jeep cherokee and they all denied me because it had a "salvage/junk" title on it. My father and I got such a good deal on the Cherokee, that we never had the time to check carfax... and I dont even think they had carfax.com back in 99'. So, I was driving down the street in it, wondering what I was going to do, and i saw this beautiful 93 YJ sitting there in the lot of a hole in the wall dealership that said "IN HOUSE FINANCING" on the outside. I had just turned 18, and figured id give it a shot. I'd always thought wranglers were cool, what 18 year old doesnt?
So i walk in there and inquire about the YJ... Test drove it, and i was hooked. Now, this HOLE IN THE WALL place didnt bother checking the title of my XJ, if they did, they would have probably not wanted it. They gave me 2k for my XJ, and offered me a loan for the YJ at 16.9 %. I figured it was my shot to get the XJ off my hands and get a wrangler. So, i did it. Drove off the lot with the top down and felt like a million bux. All my H.S. buddies wanted to ride in it, and instantly, i was mr. popular at school.
Then, about 30 days later when I got the first bill in the mail for the YJ, I suddenly realized that this jeep was not MINE yet... i still had to pay a large amount every month to keep it. Again, i was YOUNG and DUMB. Long story short, I skipped a few payments and didnt realize that when you do that, they come and take you're Jeep away. They ended up finding it parked outside a shopping center at night, and bam, it was gone, just like that.
They gave me an opportunity to get it back, but i would have had to pay the remaining balance for the YJ. They ended up putting it up for auction, taking me to court, and destroying my credit to the point where I couldnt even get a bank account. Since then, everytime i see a young guy cruising in his new wrangler, I think back to those days and how that could have been me if i hadnt been so stupid. I used to dream about driving it with the top down on a warm summer night.
Now, 10 years later, here i am with a beautiful TJ... And I actually got it by mistake... Only because i found an idiot that wanted my XJ with a blown motor for his TJ... It was a once in a lifetime deal, and i was right there to take it...
Now i just wonder.... why now?! why when I just had a kid? why cant I just have my damn wrangler?! why do my fiances parents, my parents, and just about everyone i know tell me I would be a HORRIBLE parent if i drove my new born child around in a TJ?
This my friends, this is why i am clinging to it... And after a story like that, im sure you would to. I think of it as my youth i never had... and now I have it at the age of 27, with a child. You just dont understand how i feel when im in it... And i dont think anyone ever could.

Johnathan,
You're never going to find the perfect trade your after....ever. Sell the TJ and bank the money till you find an XJ you can live with.

Jonathon, the past is the past and the future is the future. You can learn from the past and you can set goals for the future, but you cannot live in either one. You live in the now, so make the decision that makes the most sense for the now. Since you are a new father and you are starting a family, I think the most responsible answer to the question you keep asking is to do whatever you truly believe is the right thing to do for your family. I think you know deep down inside what the right answer is and that is why you keep waffling about what to do.
BTW, in my opinion the answer to your question is sell the TJ and put the money away for emergencies and to cover the time when your business is slow. Winter is coming up and that time of year is usually slow for the type of work you do.

Is it your only vehicle? does your wife have a car of her own?
as a very over protective parent of 2, i see no harm in driving the kid around in a wrangler. as a matter of fact, with the roll cage in place, it may even be safer. although, i would have to say get rid of the soft top and get a hard top, safer.
had the 4dr JK and took my kids every where with it, and they loved it (older though).
i look back now and see alot of vehicles that i wish i would have kept (not same reasons as yours). dont look back and regret selling it, the animosity will be taken out on the wife and kid, maybe not on purpose, but it will happen, human nature.
one thing i will say, dont let your parents or heaven forbid your in laws tell you that you are a bad parent. do you have a house over your head? clothes on your back, food on the table? if so, tell them to mind their own f*cking business. i dont know you, dont know anything about you or your family, but i will say that if you let other pressure you into making decisions, maybe you are not ready to have the decision making responsibility.
not like you are the only one in the whole wide world who has a baby in a wrangler
EDIT: obligatory /rant off

This thread has absolutely nothing to do with Johnathan's business, finances, or family in any way shape or form and it is not a subject that anyone has a right to bring up until the OP does.
This sort of hijack is nothing but trouble for all concerned and some of you should know better....a helluvalot better.
Wanna praise or bash his ongoing TJ/XJ trade issues, fine. Wanna discuss his private life, your private life, or anything else that isn't anyones business? Have the decency to do it back channel via a PM.

You'd have a point Frank...... IF....... Jonathan hadn't put it all out there himself. Look at his post above (#8). Pretty much invites discussion about personal life, kids, finances.... it's damn near all out there.
I'm sorry, but if the O.P. turns a thread into a personal blog - the topics for discussion will become a very wide road.
We can close this thread at Jonathan's request...... but he's the one opening the channels and he's openly invited us all to discuss his concerns/issues/thoughts..... etc.

My wifey has an 01' XJ, I have a Ford F150 XLT extended cab that fits a baby seat just fine in the back seat.
Why do I want another XJ? I loved my old one, It was comfy, safe, and reliable, and warm. I also hate driving my truck for any reason other than WORK. This is why I would like both of my vehicles to be "baby seat friendly".
as far as my finances go, I have a good amount of business heading my way. I put plenty of food on the table, clothes on my wife and childs back, and I have a loving family that is willing to help if all hell broke loose.
my family, and karens family are both what you would call "city folk". They dont understand why someone would want a car that you can take the doors off, that rides really rough, or why someone would want 33" tires and a lift kit on their car.
IF, it ever came to it, you bet I would sell the Jeep before I let my family starve. Im not stupid, nor am I selfish. I am one thing though, and that is a perfectionist. I like everything to be done right, the first time... and every jeep i have gone to see regarding a trade (minus 89xjw's) has been a piece of crap, pieced together redneck lifts, horrible rear end vibrations, and maaco paint jobs they were tryin to hide.
I will eventually find the XJ I am looking for, and am in no rush right now. We currently have 2 vehicles right now that are baby seat friendly, which is more than alrite. Im just trying to do the right thing, get what I want, and make everyone around me happy at the same time, but that probably wont work out. Until then, Ill keep the TJ... And yeah, its probably not worth the 7-8k that I think its worth, but you cant blame me for wanting to hold onto something I really put some heart into, wether its a XJ, TJ , or a damn Hyundai.
You can close this thread now. Im done talking about it, and I know i brought alot of it on myself. My apologies.
