trying to remove stering damper from 96 cherokee can get all bolts out but can't drive the tapered end out of track bar -- soaked with pb blaster hit with bfh nothing put tie rod pickle fork in hit with bfh still nothing - didn't try heat yet - anybody got another idea

Two hammers. Hold one against the drag link against the outside of the taper. Take another and strike exactly opposite the first on the other side of the drag link. The extra hammer will reflect the blow back into the taper and help to break it loose.

I used a tie rod puller...make sure you zip tie or tie it off as it still can retain pressure and once it comes loose, it can seriously hurt if it gets you.

Took one off yesterday on a 99 it did not want to budge but a couple of solid whacks with a BFH and it popped off.
